Thank You!

Keith Jacobs

As the EYC Race Committee Chair, I would like to take a moment to express my most sincere and deepest appreciation for the support received from the EYC membership over the past month. What we have seen and done in the month of September is nothing short of spectacular.

Race Committee hosted the 4th Annapolis Labor Day Regatta (along with AYC), ran the J/22 East Coast Championship, and partnered with SSA for the I-5O5 World Championship. And the club membership welcomed and supported all of it. Members worked through downpours during ALDR, helped tend bar, worked the grill, temporarily moved their boats from the dry storage area, ran dollies to–from the SSA launching ramps, and so much more – and then welcomed everyone to our little piece of the world.

I realize these events brought some inconveniences. The tents obscured the view from the deck. Parking was influenced. The office and serving staffs were stretched. But – the compliments I have heard have been numerous and unanimous. It has been my unique pleasure to receive myriad unsolicited comments from competitors and visitors about EYC.

I had a wonderful conversation with an elderly British couple the other night, and they were in complete awe over all that EYC offered during the 5O5 event. They were welcomed into the Club, and they were taken out to watch their son compete. They were most grateful for all that our membership did to enhance their first-ever trip to the United States. This is similar to the feedback I heard from the sponsors and the competitors. The term “EYC hospitality” is not just a phrase, it is something very, very real.

I am reminded of when I was first invited to participate in EYC’s race committee activities nearly 10 years ago. I was not seen as an outsider intruding in Club activities – I was a new friend and warmly welcomed into the fold. That impression never left me, and has only been reinforced in the subsequent years.

What this Club has done and shown over the past month – year – and years – is truly amazing, and the reason why I am both happy and proud to serve as EYC’s Race Committee Chair.

With words that I can never adequately express, thank you for supporting all of our efforts!

Welcome to EYC

Not your traditional blue blazer club, EYC is built on activity, on the water and ashore. Our members are involved in a diverse range of boating activities, supported by social events and strong camaraderie. Known for our million-dollar view of the Severn River and Annapolis, EYC also is recognized in the Chesapeake Bay region and beyond as a club capable of managing major championship regattas, Friday night Beer Can races, and everything in between, as well as providing great social networking for cruising, parties, and charity events. It’s all about life on the water, and all about fun.
