Autumn is here and in traditional EYC style that did not stop us from having fun. We had our fall edition of the EYC Speakeasy by celebrating with 5 different rum drinks and food pairings to enjoy along with a surprise. Our own Resident Cocktail Historian, Mike Thompson, provided us with pirate tidbits and a lot of wonderful information and history about rum and the cocktails we enjoyed. Everyone left with their own souvenir EYC Speakeasy Mug and recipe booklet.

I want to thank Anne, Sean, Nancy, Susan, Glen and Mike for all of their help with this event. I want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to our own Chef Henry for going above and beyond to really make this event happen. We had a few pirates show up to find out – “Why is the Rum always gone?”

We continued to enjoy more fun on International Talk like a Pirate Day with rum and food specials of Crab Balls and Shrimp Scampi.

In October House Committee will be bringing you other great events to enjoy. We will start on Friday, October 13, from 5-9 with Founder’s Day/EYC History Rollout. It’s the anniversary of the day in 1980 when our founders held the inaugural meeting to create Eastport Yacht Club. We are going to party like it’s 1980 to celebrate Founder’s Day with drink specials and Rocco’s Pizza. We will also have a premiere showing of the video. There’s no charge to attend, but your RSVP to eastportyc.org/founders will help us plan.

The long awaited Bourbon and Cigar Night will be on Saturday, October 28, from 6-9. Our host Mark Jones wants you join to us for a night of fun; enjoy a great cigar, taste premium bourbon, and savor food pairings from Chef Henry. This event is for both ladies and gentlemen. Advance reservations will be required as there are only 40 seats available. Keep watch in the clubhouse and weekly Newsblast for more details and online reservations.

We will end the month on October 31 with our own Halloween Party. Save the date and come celebrate with the ghosts, goblins and pumpkins. This will be a Spooktacular Event that you will not want to miss. Keep an eye out for more information in the clubhouse and Newsblast.

I have been asked about the Rhumb Line menu and yes, we still have it. If it’s not in your menu ask your server to bring you one.

We value your comments and suggestions, so please fill out a comment card when you receive it with your bill. You can also find them on the table by the hostess stand.

Save the Date: Our Chesapeake Seafood Bake is back again this fall on Saturday, November 18. I am giving you the early heads-up so you can put it on your calendar and make your reservation as soon as it goes online. This has been a sold-out event – remember the bucket-o-seafood along with sides – so don’t forget to save the date and stay tuned for more details, because tickets are limited.

Reminder: the House Committee meets every month on the first Wednesday at 6:30 in the conference room. All are welcome to attend a meeting and see if you would like to join us on a regular basis.

Our members are involved in a diverse range of boating activities, supported by social events and strong camaraderie. Known for our million-dollar view of the Severn River and Annapolis, EYC also is recognized in the Chesapeake Bay region and beyond as a club capable of managing major championship regattas, Friday night Beer Can races, and everything in between, as well as providing great social networking for cruising, parties, and charity events. It’s all about life on the water, and all about fun.
