Around the House: November 2017

Around the House: November 2017

Theresa Somes

October was another busy and fun month for House Committee. I hope you were able to come to the Founder’s Day/EYC History Book Rollout and purchased the book and DVD. October 13, 1980, was a very special day when our founders held the first meeting of invited charter members upstairs at Marmaduke’s. Thank You to our founders for the wonderful club that we have today to enjoy. A huge Thank You to all of the staff and volunteers who made this night a huge success.

The long awaited Bourbon and Cigar Night with our host Mark Jones was a fun night with the tasting of 6 premium bourbons, a cigar to enjoy them with along with some wonderful food pairings from Chef Henry. Everyone was treated to some great surprises which included an extra special bourbon tasting.
We ended the month with own Halloween Party. It was a Spooktacular Event that was celebrated with the ghosts, goblins and pumpkins. We had some fun games and a costume contest with prizes and a few surprises to enjoy. Our own Juanita came up with a Vampire Cocktail for the evening festivities.

November is here and we will have our Chesapeake Seafood Bake on Saturday, November 18th. You will be served a big old bucket containing a lobster along with clams, mussels and shrimp prepared by Chef Henry. Henry’s sides will be set out on a buffet table where you’ll find corn on the cob, potatoes, salad and dessert. We will have draft and wine specials for this event. This has been a sold-out event – remember the bucket-o-seafood along with sides – so don’t forget to save the date and stay tuned for more details, because tickets are limited and reservations will be required. Seating times will be staggered to allow the kitchen to keep up with the dining room, and we ask that you honor your reservation time so everyone can be served in a timely and comfortable manner. Find out more at eastportyc.org/seafood.

Save the date: Saturday, December 2, we will enjoy our holiday decorations along with the now infamous ‘Get Your Elf On!’ party. Wear your elf hat or wear a name tag with your elf name printed on it and get a drink ticket.

We value your comments and suggestions so please fill out a comment card when you receive it with your bill. You can also find them on the table by the hostess stand.

Reminder: the House Committee meets every month on the first Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in the conference room. All are welcome to attend a meeting and see if you would like to join us on a regular basis.

Upcoming Events for December:

  • December 16th – Children’s Gingerbread House Building Party
  • December 17th – EYC Cookie Exchange
Watch the Newsblast and Bulletin Board for more great events brought to you by House Committee.

Welcome to EYC

Not your traditional blue blazer club, EYC is built on activity, on the water and ashore. Our members are involved in a diverse range of boating activities, supported by social events and strong camaraderie. Known for our million-dollar view of the Severn River and Annapolis, EYC also is recognized in the Chesapeake Bay region and beyond as a club capable of managing major championship regattas, Friday night Beer Can races, and everything in between, as well as providing great social networking for cruising, parties, and charity events. It’s all about life on the water, and all about fun.
