After an impressive first day on the water over the weekend of August 19 - 21 at the 2016 Hinman Masters team racing regatta at New York Yacht Club in Newport, an event where even an invitation to participate is an honor, Team EYC earned a spot in the Gold Fleet and ultimately finished seventh. Here's the wrap-up report from Gavin O'Hare:

The team raced hard and fared better than last year. This year we beat all but the champion team [Noroton YC] in matches throughout the weekend. We tied for 6th place and lost the tie breaker to Seawanhaka Corinthian YC of Long Island.TeamEYCHinman

In the preceeding 12 months, we practiced, scrimmaged other yacht clubs, raised money, and had several work days to maintain our new fleet of 3 J/22's. The effort has been put forth by many and the fruits are EYC members getting to know other members they had not connected with in past, a focus on the challenge of the team racing discipline of sailing, and last but certainly not least, the opportunity to network with other yacht clubs with similar passion for competitive activity.

The extended team (approximately 40 members... and growing) is excited for upcoming events and further inter club scrimmages! Keep an eye out for EYC at the 24 & 25 AYC Team Challenge in Annapolis harbor.

This year's on-water roster included: Team EYC: Boat 1: Geoff Ewenson, James Appel, Curtis Hartman, Tom Murray; Boat 2: Reid McLaughlin, Carl Smit, Kathleen Elliott, Tim Borland; Boat 3: Gavin O'Hare, Dean Balcirak, Dave Schoene, Dave Malkin.

Welcome to EYC

Not your traditional blue blazer club, EYC is built on activity, on the water and ashore. Our members are involved in a diverse range of boating activities, supported by social events and strong camaraderie. Known for our million-dollar view of the Severn River and Annapolis, EYC also is recognized in the Chesapeake Bay region and beyond as a club capable of managing major championship regattas, Friday night Beer Can races, and everything in between, as well as providing great social networking for cruising, parties, and charity events. It’s all about life on the water, and all about fun.
