Fish For A Cure is coming to EYC!F4AC logo vert 4c

The 10th annual Fish For A Cure (F4AC) tournament is coming to EYC on November 5, and this is EYC’s newest big event. The partnership between F4AC and EYC is off to a great start, with the Special Events committee and many other EYC volunteers jumping in with both feet.

F4AC is first and foremost a fundraising vehicle that provides support for AAMC’s survivorship programs at the Decesaris Cancer Institute. The survivorship programs support the patients and their families as they go through the life cycle of cancer – diagnosis to a clean bill of health. These programs cover many things that are not covered by traditional insurance, but support a much better outcome for each patient. The programs may cover nutritional, psychosocial, financial, and genetic counseling, and other wellness services.

f4ACburgeeExcEYC and its army of volunteers are now working with the F4AC founders to expand the tournament itself, as well as take the shore party to another level. We will be able to host all of the boats fishing in the tournament when they come in afterwards (by rafting up outside our bulkhead), and we offer the ability to expand the number of people that can come to the shore party.

So, what is this F4AC tournament, you ask? Well, think of it as another of EYC’s regattas, an entire day spent on the water, and awards ceremony, then a fabulous party. The party is a bit more upscale than most of the regatta parties we host, but the flavor is much the same, an entire night of celebration and fun!

Awards are given out at the tournament for the heaviest rockfish, the heaviest string of perch, and a unique division, the SLAM division, which encourages the fisherman to bring in the heaviest string of 5 different species of fish – not including a rockfish. This year, with EYC’s support, the tournament is adding a catch-and-release division, the boats will be vying for the award for the longest string of 3 combined rockfish that are released.

And then there is the crown jewel of awards, the Paul C. Dettor Memorial Captains Challenge. This award is given to the boat that raises the most funds to support AAMC. Each boat goes out to its community and gets as many donations as possible! EYC has had the winner of this award twice in the last 5 years!

How can you help? There are many ways. First, you should donate to one of the EYC based boats, V/V Phish’nette (a Virtual Vessel) with Captain Jack Borland at the helm, that will not be fishing, but is working for donations, or Jay and Janis Beach's Beach Party and Justin Gibbons' Dark N Stormy, that will also be on the water vying for the fishing awards as well. As others join Team EYC, you'll find them singled out, along with these two, at eastportyc.org/team-eyc.

Another great way to help, is come to the party! This party will feature the Dan Haas band, open bar, food, a great silent auction, and is one of the Annapolis events that has everyone buzzing. Attendees will be dressed in everything from jeans and sweatshirts (fisherpeople) to jackets and cocktail dresses. Tickets are $100 each.

Welcome to EYC

Not your traditional blue blazer club, EYC is built on activity, on the water and ashore. Our members are involved in a diverse range of boating activities, supported by social events and strong camaraderie. Known for our million-dollar view of the Severn River and Annapolis, EYC also is recognized in the Chesapeake Bay region and beyond as a club capable of managing major championship regattas, Friday night Beer Can races, and everything in between, as well as providing great social networking for cruising, parties, and charity events. It’s all about life on the water, and all about fun.
