October 1, 2014:
The J/80 Worlds Regatta is upon us! By the time this article is published the international regatta will be well underway. Please join us in showing our competitors and guests what it means to be among the amazing EYC community. Our Race Committee and J/80 Worlds Organizing Committee have done an amazing job of putting together a world class regatta and should be congratulated.
We should also thank our membership at large for allowing the small inconveniences that are associated with hosting a regatta of this magnitude. We know the loss of the parking lot and marina tenants having to relocate their boats particularly can be a nuisance so again we thank those members who continued to support the club during this period.
Boat Show Parking
Just a reminder to all of our members that the Yacht Haven parking lot is NOT available to EYC members on Saturday and Sunday of both the power and sailboat shows. Evening parking after 5 p.m. Monday through Friday is unchanged. Please respect our neighbors and don’t infringe upon their spaces on those weekends. The relationship with Yacht Haven is important to the club and we don’t want to inconvenience our great neighbor. Enjoy the show!
Boat Show Bash
Once again Eastport Yacht Club will host the best party in Annapolis on Saturday, October 11: the EYC Boat Show Bash! Our hard working Special Events Committee is putting together another memorable party featuring great live music, terrific food and, of course, some great beverage concoctions!
Additionally, this is a terrific opportunity to volunteer for the club and have a lot of fun at the same time. Spend an hour or two to support the club by pouring beer, helping grill food, sell tickets or any number of other functions for the event. You can sign up on the website or at the club for your convenience. See you then!
It goes without saying that the outside deck is one of the things that our members love most about their club. We ask that all members be sensitive to one another’s enjoyment of this space. Unfortunately smoking can sometimes affect some people’s ability to enjoy their time on the deck. Toward that end we ask that all smokers please be considerate and take your co-members preferences into consideration. If necessary, staff would be happy to relocate you to another area of the deck and of course the lower level lawn is always a nice escape. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
I hope you all will join me in welcoming our new accountant Elana Schulman. Elana, who is a CPA and certified fraud examiner, will pick up where Donna Glessing, our terrific former accountant left off. Elana, her husband and two young boys are residents of Annapolis and have enjoyed the area for a number of years. Beyond her technical proficiencies Elana fits our mold of friendly and helpful staff members so I hope you will take the time to introduce yourself and welcome her to our family at EYC.
Of course, like any new staff member replacing an established employee there will be a transition as she learns the system. We hope you will be patient as she learns the intricacies of our member accounting.
We also ask that if you are sending payments or invoices to the office that you please notate what the payment is for in the memo field or include an invoice with your check to help diminish the learning curve and reduce potential errors. Welcome aboard Elana, we are glad to have you!
