March 1, 2015: The weather in Annapolis has certainly been challenging late in the season this year. As I write this article I am looking at large snowflakes falling on what was already a very white canvas. The cold temperatures of February will hopefully give way to a warm and inviting March for all of our members to come down and begin to enjoy their boats, the wonderful EYC waterfront deck and of course the beginning of an active race season. Come on warm weather!

2015 Commodore’s Ball

John Travolta has nothing on our EYC members! The first ever ‘70s themed EYC Commodore’s Ball was terrific fun for all those that attended. I want to thank Carol Vilardo and her hard working Special Events Committee for putting together a fabulous event. The decorations were only outdone by some of the great polyester outfits that walked through the front door. Another special thanks goes out to the YWCA who provided all of the decorations for the event.

Marina slips

All new contracts for the marina should be in at this point and I would like to remind you that we still have both wet and dry slips available. If you need to store a boat up to 40ft in length EYC has a home for you! The current open slips are as follows:

  • A-Dock (closest to the academy) slips: A1 (31ft), A6 (30ft), A11 (32ft), A16 (30ft), A19( 40ft)
  • B-Dock: slips: B1 (30ft), B6 (31ft available 2nd quarter)
  • C-Dock slips: No slips currently available
  • Dry Sail slips: One open slip for a trailered boat.

Please contact Bill Kocan or the marina chairperson for further information and annual rates.

New Accountant

Please help me welcome our new part time accountant Ruthann Mitzel.  Ruthann joined us at the beginning of the year and has done a terrific job acclimating to out hectic office environment.  I hope you all will take a moment to stop in the office and introduce yourselves and make her feel a part of our EYC family.  I also want to thank those EYC members who introduced Ruthann to the club and served as great references.  Lastly, I would like to thank George Miller, Amy Wales and Donna Glessing for helping in what turned out to be a long search process.  I think the long hours and exhaustive searching has produced a great new employee of the club that will help take us into the future.  Welcome aboard Ruthann!

Parking stickers and directory

All EYC members should have received their 2015 directory, parking sticker and member card sticker in the mail. Please don’t forget to affix your sticker to the front driver’s side lower left window. Removal of unauthorized vehicles will be more aggressive this month and we don’t want to inadvertently tow a member who has a sticker sitting on the kitchen table.

Emeritus communications

As most members are surely already aware the club has been communicating with a legal representative from a group of members who are considering legal action against the club. If you would like to read the full spectrum of communications from their counsel and the club’s responses you can do so on the private members’ side of the website or you can acquire hard copies from the club’s executive offices. Please call ahead if you would like hard copies so we can have them available for you when you arrive.
