April 1, 2015: Thanks for coming out, sock burners. I hope your efforts forced Mother Nature to bring us some warm weather. All those in attendance deserve a pat on the back for pressing on through the snow, rain and mud to keep our ever-popular annual event alive and kicking even though the weather wasn’t very “Spring like.” And I thought last year’s wind was bad!
It does feel like we have turned a corner, however, and the warmer weather seems to be upon us. The clubhouse will be very active as usual in the upcoming weeks so we look forward to seeing all of those hibernating members more frequently.
Open Marina Slips
Our marina is filling fast for our 2015 season and there are only a few slips still available for boats 30 feet to 32 feet in length. Unfortunately all of our landside slips are currently committed. If you are interested in one of the remaining slips, act fast as they will surely fill up as soon as the warm weather takes over.
I wanted to offer a quick apology for the water being turned on later than normal in the marina this year. There was a bit of plumbing work that needed to be performed after the weather broke and scheduling plumbers at this time of year is a bit challenging. We anticipate a mid-March opening next year unless the weather dictates otherwise.
Families, food and fun!
April is another great month for family fun at EYC! Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the annual kids’ Easter Egg Hunt. This is one of my favorite EYC events when all of the Lil’ Skippers of EYC don their fancy Easter duds and converge on the club for a terrific morning of fun. Negotiations are still underway with the Easter Bunny himself, so hopefully he will be able to carve out some time from his busy day to say “hi” to all of the kids. We ask that you please make reservations to assure your space for this always popular event. Note that there will also be an early seating prior to the hunt for those members who may want eat and run before the chaos ensues!
Kids’ First Fridays is another event picking up a lot of steam here at EYC. Thanks to our member volunteers and their helpers for another great St. Patrick’s Day-themed event in March. We will host another fun evening on April 3 for kids and parents alike. Laura Moore has some terrific activities planned and we will have a children’s movie playing on the TV. We can always use extra hands to assist with the activities so please contact me or Laura directly if you would like to participate in some manner. The turnouts have been great so please make your reservations soon so that we have the appropriate amount of materials available for all the families.
Family Movie Night returns on April 17 as well. Join the rest of the kids as we screen a movie and enjoy supper together in the conference room.
Please be advised that towing has actively begun for 2015. Management and the EYC Board hate to see our members having to incur the expense of having a car towed. Our goal is to maintain the value of membership by making sure unauthorized cars are removed to make room for our dues-paying members. Please make sure your parking sticker is a 2015 sticker and that it is placed on the driver’s side lower portion of the front windshield. Also, please remind your guests that parking in the evening is limited to the Yacht Haven lot located across the street.
Lastly, remember that parking in the area reserved for boats is never permitted with or without an EYC sticker.
