July 1, 2015:  School is out, the best deck in Annapolis is as busy as ever and sailing season is in full swing…it must be summer in Annapolis! EYC has activities galore for our members so be sure to take a look at the calendar of events to find out what our hard working committees have in store for this season. Great cruises, competitive regattas, junior and adult sailing classes and terrific landside events pack a fun filled calendar.

Fourth of July at the Eastport Yacht Club

It seems like a no-brainer! Why wouldn't you come down and see the fireworks in all their glory from the Eastport Yacht Club? This year we will repeat our successful food and beverage format from 2014. Not only will we be serving a July 4th style casual buffet in the dining room but we will also offer a la carte grill service on the lawn.

There is no restriction on the number of guests for this event and we welcome you and your family to join us for the fun. Tickets may be purchased at the door for both guest entrance fees ($10) and for the food buffet. The hard-working House Committee is also looking for a few volunteers to help sell tickets and entrance fees at the gate for short shifts so you can still enjoy the fireworks and the fun.

New Dining Room Shades

Do you love the EYC dining room but have been bothered by the strong sun through the windows at times? Well, we have listened to our members and you should keep your eyes open, literally, for the new shades that the club will be installing in the next month or so. We hope it will enhance our terrific dining room and add to our members’ enjoyment of the space.

Flag Pole Light

Some of our members may have noticed a failure in flag protocol at times at the club. If the US Flag is to be flown at night then it must be illuminated.

In the old clubhouse there was a fixture on the building that took care of this task. However the distance between pole and the building wouldn’t allow this in the new clubhouse so we have been illuminating the pole form the ground with temporary lighting.

This month we will be installing a better more permanent fixture that will illuminate the flag in a more effective manner. We look forward to giving proper attention to our most important fixture at the club, our US flag and EYC burgee.

Wireless

Some of our members have struggled with weak Wi-Fi service in various parts of the clubhouse or marina. The club has accepted bids on the augmentation of this system and we hope to address its weaknesses as soon as funds allow for the investment. We strive to keep our technologies up to date and useful for all our member and club needs and look forward to its installation in the near future.

Slips in the Marina are Available

We still have wet slips available for boats 31ft and under. Please contact me for our midseason rates. Take advantage of the convenience of keeping your boat at EYC and contact me soon!
