December 1, 2015:
2015 Annual Meeting
Thanks to all of our members who attended the 2015 Annual Meeting at Marriott Waterfront Hotel. The turnout was unprecedented, and we welcomed in three new Board members: Liz Filter, Rear Commodore; Clayton Miller, Treasurer; and Kirk Gunn, Fleet Captain for the New Year.
I would also like to thank our outgoing Board members Scott Miller, Tom Spiegel and Mike Thompson for all of the hard work they put in for what amounted to a very challenging year. So congratulations (and sometimes condolences) to the entire Board for their election and let’s hope for a great 2016!
I would also like to take a moment to congratulate Keith Jacobs for being the recipient of the A2B Volunteer of the Year Award. Keith’s contributions to the club are extraordinary. As General Manager I have the pleasure of working with Keith frequently and the award could not have gone to a more organized, reasonable, intelligent and DESERVING individual! Thanks, Keith, for making my job easier and for running a world class racing program for our members and our community!
Lastly, I would like to thank the EYC Foundation for their terrific presentation. The Foundation is doing a terrific job and has a fabulous energy and plan of action for 2016. So, please take a moment to read about their efforts and contribute to their great programs.
The holiday season is upon us and the cheer and good spirit can already be felt here at EYC. Keep a close eye on the schedule for special events at the club such as the Annual Holiday Decorating Party, the EYC Parade of Lights, Gingerbread House Building for kids, Kids First Friday, the EYC New Year’s Eve Festivities and lots more.
Lastly, note that the dining room will be closed on Monday, December 14, and Saturday, December 19, for private events but the bar will be open as usual and serving both dining room and galley menus for your pleasure. We look forward to seeing you at your club soon!
Please mark your calendars that the club will be closing to perform maintenance to the clubhouse on Monday, January 4, and Tuesday, January 5. We will reopen for regular business on Wednesday the 6th but the kitchen will not open until 6 p.m. and the business offices will be closed until approximately 3 p.m. The bar will open at its normal time. Tasks such as painting, floor refinishing and general maintenance will be on the agenda for the week. If you are interested in contributing to the process please contact the Buildings and Grounds chair, Tom Mullan.
New Assistant General Manager
I hope you will join me in welcoming our new Assistant General Manager, Ryan Sokolowski, to our family. Ryan formerly resided in Pennsylvania and is now a proud resident of Annapolis. It was a very hectic move for Ryan and his fiancé Victoria having locked up his new job, finding a new place to live, closing out his old living accommodations and beginning with us, all in a two-week period.
It was a yeoman’s effort and I appreciate his accommodations on behalf of EYC. I am sure his presence will reflect very positively on the service to our membership and our already great staff. Take a moment to say “hi” and welcome him to our amazing little club!
