June 1, 2016: One of the club’s busiest months of the year is now behind us but the summer season is just beginning! The club is alive with activity this time of the year and of course the outside deck overlooking the water is the perfect place to be to enjoy the start of another great EYC boating season.
Keep an eye out for all of the terrific House Committee events planned for June. Of course June means that EYC will once again play host to the Leukemia Cup on the 4th. The club is attempting to set a new record for donations so please come down and enjoy a cold rum drink and enjoy the evening while supporting the greater good.
Not to be outdone, the Annapolis to Bermuda Ocean Race is also near the beginning of the month with the annual Latitude Adjustment Party (formerly Spring Cotillion, formerly the ... well you get the point) is the day before the race. Get your tickets now for what will surely be an evening to remember!
Please take a moment to say hi to some of our new summer staff. We will have some familiar faces returning from school as well as some fresh new servers for our busy season. We will do our best to get the new folks up to speed as quickly as possible and have every confidence we will build on the strengths of our existing team.
In an industry where turnover and employee loyalty is not the norm I am proud and thankful that we have established a solid base of staff that understands what it is to work in a club environment and enjoys servicing our terrific membership. As always, I look forward to your feedback (both positive and negative) and will continue to work to improve the quality of the EYC experience.
New Aft Deck
If you don’t venture down to the rear lower level of the building you are missing our latest and greatest club improvement. Our hard working “Fools with Tools” have done an amazing job of giving our garage classroom a facelift. It has now been renamed the “Aft Deck” and will allow us to better utilize the space for a variety of events ranging from the Junior Sailing classroom, to a regatta meeting space, an event space and of course we all know we can use another meeting room ... this one has a great view!
Keep your eyes open for the upcoming new deck that will be built off this space and into the yard which will allow us to utilize the club in a whole new fashion for our members. Very exciting!
Music on the Deck
One of the annual seasonal highlights at the club is the member favorite, Music on the Deck. Just a few of our talented bands are as follows: June 5th, Sunny Isles Blues Band; June 19th (Fathers’ Day), Matt McConville; July 4th (Monday), Major Company; July 17th, Ellis Woodward and July 31st, Dan Haas! Check out the calendar for August dates and come down and dance away your Sunday afternoon.
I hate to tow cars! Unfortunately this is a necessity if we are to operate properly and not diminish the value of membership. That being said, we have had to tow more vehicles lately than any of us would like. We recognize that there are limited parking spaces both in our lot and in the Yacht Haven lot across the street but it is a reality we must face.
We ask that all members respect the rights of one another and utilize only the designated parking spots and to also make sure your vehicle has a valid EYC parking permit affixed to the driver’s side lower front window. We thank you for helping maintain this important aspect of the club operations.
