General Manager Bill Kocan
August 1, 2016: What a terrific summer this is becoming! Last month we had great weather for our Boomerang event, Standup Paddleboard Challenge and of course the hugely successful Latitude Adjustment Party. Once again we have solidified that EYC knows how to throw a terrific race event and an even better party afterwards! The attendance was terrific at all of those events and we were able to help support the EYC Foundation as well as throw some money into the coffers.
August is always a slightly less active month than the Spring and early Summer months but that translates to more room to enjoy the club. Of course the CRAB Regatta (8/20) and the Magothy River Cruise (8/13) will be fun events in August, but many of our members take time off in August to vacation which means the deck and dining rooms aren’t as full as those busy months. Therefore, it’s a terrific time to take advantage of the a la cart offerings at the club. All of our regular weekly specials like Pub Night, Prime Rib Night, Burger Night and many more will be available all month so we look forward to seeing you soon.
The club business is a people business. We rely on relationships and feedback from our members to continually improve our offerings and encourage club use. Sure, we love to hear what a great experience you might have at the club and we encourage all of our members to let us know when that happens, but we are not above failure.
I understand no one wants to “complain” or be complained about but the negative end of the feedback spectrum is as useful as the positive. We encourage our members to use the comment cards as well as forthcoming vehicles the House Committee is currently developing for easier feedback.
Additionally, I encourage you to alert a manager when something may have failed to exceed your expectations. Learning of failures in the moment allows us to correct them in a way that days later often does not.
Some items become undiscoverable over time; in those cases the specifics that can become very useful when teaching teens and young adults turn to broader concepts which do not often have the same impact.
I teach our staff that it is the response to failure that determines our success not the initial shortcoming. Our team strives for perfection but we need your input to continually improve. The challenges of a somewhat transient service staff present ongoing challenges that will likely be with us for some time, so the ongoing training and feedback is valuable to their development in a timely fashion.
We thank you in advance for your positive and negative feedback and hope to create an environment that makes our members want to come back over and over again.
Private Event Discount Coming in September
It may be hot outside but it is never too early to beginning planning for the holiday season!
For those who like to plan ahead we are offering a great incentive to hold your business or personal holiday party here at EYC. All members who book a private event in September will receive a 25% discount on the facility fee for use of any available event space in November and December 2016.
EYC loves families! The club has done many great things this year to welcome families to the club and it is our goal to continue to enhance the offerings so that parents and their kids feel welcome and safe. Toward that end, we ask that children are never left unsupervised on or near the docks. We also request that any children on the docks have proper safety gear such as pfds and shoes on at all times to prevent injury.
The thought of a child being injured or worse is unbearable to consider and could also put the club in harm’s way from a liability standpoint. Therefore, we look to all members to help prevent any potential accidents. I thank you all in advance for the effort and attention to our most vulnerable members.
