August 1, 2017
The recent heat is a clear indication that summer has us firmly in its grasp. While working on the boat, enjoying a regatta or participating in one of our terrific sailing classes we want to remind everyone to hydrate and take time to cool down in the air conditioning when possible. We have seen a few people suffer the symptoms of heat stroke and we want guarantee that there are no severe cases at our club. Headache, nausea and fatigue are but a few of the early symptoms to keep an eye on.
We also ask that we all help with identifying these symptoms in our smallest members of our club, the kids, since they may not know to do so on their own. Safety is our highest priority! Besides what better place is there to cool down than in the clubhouse enjoying the best view in Annapolis!
Music on the Deck
Our annual Music on the Deck season is in full swing and we invite everyone down to enjoy a nice late Sunday afternoon with some fabulous local musicians. The month of August features Blue Suede Bop on the 6th and the 21012 band on the 20th. Blue Suede Bop plays popular rockabilly from the late 50's as well as many current songs in the rockabilly style, 50's and 60's roots rock and roll, some honky-tonk/swing songs, Americana rock and a small variety of some alt/traditional country standards. Most all of the older material is redone in a more contemporary style. The majority of their songs are easily recognized, up-tempo, and danceable! See you for a great tune and a rum punch soon!
Join us at the club on August 19th as our EYC family hosts the CRAB (Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating) Regatta. This fantastic regatta and after party fundraiser is dedicated to making the thrill of sailing a reality for physically and/or developmentally-challenged individuals and for those individuals whose financial circumstances preclude their participation in recreation on the waters of Chesapeake Bay. It’s not only a terrific event to watch but we sure do know how to throw a great party afterwards! Join us for live music, some great food from the Boatyard Bar & Grill all the while supporting a terrific cause. Interested in more information about the event or the regatta? Check out their website at http://crabsailing.org/
OK, I agree it is a little early to be thinking about Frostbiting but it’s never too early to reserve a slip for the season. EYC has short term leases available in our slips for those individuals who may wish to take advantage of racing out of EYC. Contact me for rates and availability and reserve your slip now.
Financial Town Hall
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for August 27th at 4pm. The club will host another Financial Town Hall in a series to discuss the club’s finances and financial positioning for a successful future. Our finance committee, club treasurer and board of governors have been crunching numbers and listening to member’s viewpoints about club finances and financial philosophies for many months now and we hope to boil down some of this information at this meeting in advance of the November Annual Membership Meeting. All of our members’ voices are important and we encourage you to attend and weigh in on what you feel is the club’s best direction forward. We hope to see you there.
