The Manager's Desk
Thanks to all of those who attended the 2016 Annual Membership Meeting. This year’s meeting was highlighted by the announcement of the 2016 Volunteer of the Year, Palma Wilson.
The selection couldn’t be more appropriate as Palma’s efforts seem to be never ending. Her volunteer efforts span multiple committees as well as the EYC Foundation for which she is a board member. I can attest first hand that she couldn’t be better to work with and her spirit and level headed approach serve the EYC membership exceptionally. And if that were not enough she’s just an all round “good egg!” Congrats, Palma, and thanks for making my job so much better!
November 1, 2016: The traditional sailing season is drawing to a close but that doesn’t mean there isn’t sailing for the die-hard amongst us. Frostbites will be starting in no time so sign up now and enjoy the experience of winter sailing. If you wish to Frostbite and keep your boat at the club also know that we offer deeply reduced rates for the season. Simply send me an email with your request and I would be happy to assist.
2016 Annual Meeting
Please clear your calendars to attend the EYC Annual Meeting when we vote in the incoming Board as well as hear updates from all of the club’s committees. This year’s meeting will be held on Saturday, November 12, at the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel (formerly the Marriott) at 11 a.m.
Come early to hear presentations from the EYC Foundation as well as the newly formed Family Committee and Green Team.
September 1, 2016:
OK, I agree it is a little early to be thinking about Frostbiting but it’s never too early to reserve a slip for the season. EYC has short term leases available in our slips for those individuals who may wish to take advantage of racing out of EYC. Contact me for rates and availability and reserve your slip now.
Private Event Discounts through September
It may be hot outside but it is never too early to begin planning for the holiday season! For those who like to plan ahead we are offering a great incentive to hold your business or personal holiday party here at EYC. All members who book a private event in September will receive a 25% discount on the facility fee for use of any available event space in November and December 2016.
October 1, 2016: It’s that time of the year again in Annapolis...Boat Show season! I am sure the vast majority of our members have enjoyed the show as an attendee, exhibitor. or otherwise but if you haven’t had the pleasure you are missing out and should take some time to enjoy all of their offerings. Also note that EYC is the perfect respite from a long day at the show. We will have terrific Boat Show food and drink specials and we won’t be nearly as crowded as our downtown neighbors. Don’t forget the water taxi can drop you off right at our back door when the day is done!
Restricted Boat Show Parking
Just a reminder to all of our members that the Yacht Haven parking lot is NOT available to EYC members on Saturday and Sunday of both the power and sailboat shows. Evening parking after 5pm Monday through Friday is unchanged. Please respect our neighbors and don’t infringe upon their spaces on those weekends. The relationship with Yacht Haven is important to the club and we don’t want to inconvenience our great neighbor. Of course, the main EYC lot will be available as usual but be reminded to have your 2016 parking sticker affixed to the front driver’s side windshield. The club will be vigilant in our enforcement of the parking policies and we don’t want to see any member’s vehicle towed. Stickers are available at the bar and from the EYC office. Enjoy the show!
General Manager Bill Kocan
August 1, 2016: What a terrific summer this is becoming! Last month we had great weather for our Boomerang event, Standup Paddleboard Challenge and of course the hugely successful Latitude Adjustment Party. Once again we have solidified that EYC knows how to throw a terrific race event and an even better party afterwards! The attendance was terrific at all of those events and we were able to help support the EYC Foundation as well as throw some money into the coffers.
August is always a slightly less active month than the Spring and early Summer months but that translates to more room to enjoy the club. Of course the CRAB Regatta (8/20) and the Magothy River Cruise (8/13) will be fun events in August, but many of our members take time off in August to vacation which means the deck and dining rooms aren’t as full as those busy months. Therefore, it’s a terrific time to take advantage of the a la cart offerings at the club. All of our regular weekly specials like Pub Night, Prime Rib Night, Burger Night and many more will be available all month so we look forward to seeing you soon.
