Boy it is great to be around a yacht club at this time of the year! I hope all of our members are enjoying the summer and the wealth of activities that the Eastport Yacht Club offers. Of course, July is full of great events and activities such as the July 4th Celebration cookout and fireworks display, the July 4th Cruise hosted by the always active Cruise Committee, the Boomerang Regatta, Stand Up Paddleboard Challenge, Beer Can Races, Green Fleet Fridays and the House Committee’s Bastille Day Celebration to name just a few of the events in the first TWO WEEKS of the month! AMAZING! Check your calendar and weekly Blast for dates and times and as always feel free to contact the office for any questions that you might have.

Four legged Friends
We definitely love our furry family members but although EYC is like a home away from home for many of our members it can’t be for our pets. Pets must remain on leashes and be supervised by their owners at all times. Although there are many dog lovers at the club remember not everyone is comfortable with animals so please respect those fellow members. Also, note that the club provides waste removal bags near the waterfront lawn so please always pick up after your pet. We have been noticing an increase in “items left behind” on our lawn and hope our dog owners will take corrective action.

The clocks have sprung forward and the EYC Sock Burning is behind us so it must be time to begin ramping up for a new sailing season! As our marina tenants start to come out of hibernation our club’s committees are hard at work planning for our busy Spring and Summer schedule. Whether it be a waterside regatta or a landside party on the lawn the fun really starts to kick in during April.
Our hard-working House Committee in conjunction with Mark Jones, club Keeper of the Log, will begin the month with the popular Rum and Cigar Night on April 1st. Of course, Easter is right around the corner on the 16th and we will offer the perennial sell out Easter Brunch in conjunction with the kids Easter egg hunt on the lawn. Kids of all ages are welcome so reach out and make your reservations early. Due to the high volume of requests for the Easter brunch, reservations require a credit card but may be cancelled up to 72 hours prior to the event without penalty.

Welcome our New Staff!
As I wrote about in last month’s VFB we are thrilled to have Glenn Looney join our terrific team as the new Assistant General Manager. His extensive experience in clubs will certainly bolster the services to our members and we look forward to his fresh ideas! We are also welcoming back a familiar face. Some of our more tenured members may remember Chef Nik Holm from the old clubhouse. Nik has returned as the club’s sous chef and we are very excited to bring another element to our kitchen. Of course, Nik knows the history of EYC and developed and prepared many of the old favorites which might just make an appearance on our current menus and special boards. Welcome back Nik!

As I am typing this letter I have to say it has been a pretty nice February. Who would have thought we would have 60 and 70-degree weather at this time of the year? Of course, it will probably snow in July but Maryland weather always keeps us on our toes. That being said, March brings us the annual Burning of the Socks celebration on the 19th so perhaps we can optimistically look forward to an early Spring. Come down with socks in hand and let’s make it happen!
