The Manager's Desk

Welcome our New Staff!
As I wrote about in last month’s VFB we are thrilled to have Glenn Looney join our terrific team as the new Assistant General Manager. His extensive experience in clubs will certainly bolster the services to our members and we look forward to his fresh ideas! We are also welcoming back a familiar face. Some of our more tenured members may remember Chef Nik Holm from the old clubhouse. Nik has returned as the club’s sous chef and we are very excited to bring another element to our kitchen. Of course, Nik knows the history of EYC and developed and prepared many of the old favorites which might just make an appearance on our current menus and special boards. Welcome back Nik!

The clocks have sprung forward and the EYC Sock Burning is behind us so it must be time to begin ramping up for a new sailing season! As our marina tenants start to come out of hibernation our club’s committees are hard at work planning for our busy Spring and Summer schedule. Whether it be a waterside regatta or a landside party on the lawn the fun really starts to kick in during April.
Our hard-working House Committee in conjunction with Mark Jones, club Keeper of the Log, will begin the month with the popular Rum and Cigar Night on April 1st. Of course, Easter is right around the corner on the 16th and we will offer the perennial sell out Easter Brunch in conjunction with the kids Easter egg hunt on the lawn. Kids of all ages are welcome so reach out and make your reservations early. Due to the high volume of requests for the Easter brunch, reservations require a credit card but may be cancelled up to 72 hours prior to the event without penalty.

If you didn’t get the opportunity to join in January for our ever popular Lobster night don’t worry because we will have a full month of Saturday night lobsters in February. You must call in advance to reserve your lobster and don’t forget to make a reservation to reserve your table as well. Note that these are separate reservations so please alert the staff member who is helping you that you would like both if that is your intention. All dates still have availability but very frequently sell out so act quickly!
March 1, 2017
As I am typing this letter I have to say it has been a pretty nice February. Who would have thought we would have 60 and 70-degree weather at this time of the year? Of course, it will probably snow in July but Maryland weather always keeps us on our toes. That being said, March brings us the annual Burning of the Socks celebration on the 19th so perhaps we can optimistically look forward to an early Spring. Come down with socks in hand and let’s make it happen!
Happy 2017 to all of our amazing members! The New Year is upon us and I hope everyone had a joyful and safe holiday with their family and friends. I would like to take a brief moment to thank all of the membership for maintaining such an amazing club that helps support our staff’s families and provide a terrific community for each and every member. Like any dynamic organization we have our challenging moments but the tenacity and good will always seem to prevail.
I would also like to specifically thank our Commodore, the rest of the board and of course all of our committee chairpersons and volunteers who help keep this wonderful “machine” running so smoothly. Of course, I would also be remiss in not thanking our very hardworking staff who come to work with great attitudes and work hard to service our membership every day. Without your collective efforts we would not be close to what we are today.
Thanks and the best of New Years to you all!
