Blue Angels Return May 22-23
The fabulous Blue Angels are scheduled to reappear over the Severn River on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 22 and 23, for their traditional rehearsal and air show. The deck and yard at EYC are, obviously, among the finest spots in the area for an up-close view of the spectacular aerobatics.
This is understandably one of the most popular of EYC events, and this is a restricted event for EYC members* with limited guests, so please take note:
- On both Tuesday and Wednesday, EYC members and their immediate family (living under the same roof) are admitted free, and accompanied guests are $10/each (cash only).
- On Tuesday only, Wait Listers are invited as guests of the club at $10/each (cash only).
- Members who are entertaining aboard their boats in the marina are asked to provide the names of their guests to the office in advance, so their guests will not be charged and/or delayed.
Come and enjoy what most locals already know: that Tuesday is the better day to watch the show due to its longer duration and lesser crowds. Of course, all the same food and beverage will be available both days. You will need to check in at the gate to obtain your wristband to receive service.
The club will open at 11 a.m. both Tuesday and Wednesday, and a buffet-style lunch will be available. There will be ample seating on the lawn as well as on the deck and two lunch options will be available. Upstairs in the dining room, the lunch buffet ($18 adults, $9 kids) will feature hamburgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, baked beans, potato salad, macaroni salad, and anything else seasonal and delicious our chef comes up with. Down in the yard, it's backyard cookout-style, with a la carte hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, and hot hogs, served with potato salad, chips and a pickle.
The barbeque in the yard and service at the satellite bars will be cash only, so be sure to bring your wallet!
Old hands know the drill, which is much the same as it has been in years past. The official schedule says that on Tuesday, May 22, the Blue Angels will perform circle and arrival maneuvers between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. followed by a rehearsal of their flight demonstration beween 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. On Wednesday, May 23, the Blue Angels performance and flight demonstration will begin at 2 p.m. with narration which can be heard over WNAV 1430 AM.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If the show is canceled in advance, regular club hours will be in effect, without the barbecue lunch. "Day of" cancellations by the Navy will not affect the EYC schedule. Confused yet? The bottom line is that if you wake up that morning and the show is NOT already canceled, the club is open at 11 a.m. Watch this space for weather updates, marine restrictions and more.
Parking and traffic on the Eastport peninsula on Blue Angels days can be challenging, so plan accordingly and consider walking or carpooling. Reminder: Please do not park in the Yacht Haven lot across the street before 5 p.m. on weekdays; you will be towed.
Reserve Marina Space for your boat: Marina policy allows for reserving bulkhead space up to 30 days in advance. Contact the office if you want to book a space. Rafting is encouraged and the Marina Committee would like to see the bulkhead full, so no fees will be charged for either day.
Marina Tenants and Transients: If you will be entertaining guests on your boat, please provide their names and a contact phone number for yourself so your guests will not be charged.
For safety reasons, marine restrictions on boating and anchoring will be in place in the Severn River both Tuesday and Wednesday, May 22 and 23. As always, up-to-the-minute information on the Blue Angels is available on the USNA Facebook page, and by calling the USNA Hotline, 410-293-1000.
*Please note that reciprocal members are welcome on Tuesday with their membership card from their club; only EYC members and their immediate family and accompanied guests may attend on Wednesday.
