What is Your Sailor's Level?

Novice: No sailing experience. Ages 6-8. First time sailors who are comfortable in the water with wearing a personal flotation device (PFD).

Seaman - Beginner: No sailing experience or moving up from Opti. Focus on boating safety, sailing terminology, wind awareness, basic sailing maneuvers, basic seamanship, and sailing a course.

Mate - Intermediate: Have basic sailing skills and know terminology. Introduction to rules of the road, basic navigation, boat controls, skippering, upwind course sailing, and an intro to racing.

Skipper - Advanced: Proficient skippers and crews who want to advance their boat handling skills. Focus on starting a race, racing rules, course sailing, tactics and strategy, and advance boat controls. All learners will experience skipper and crew roles.

Opti (ages 6-10)

Our Opti program uses the Blue Dragon Pram designed for ages 6-10 & up to 100lbs. We offer several levels of learn to sail including:

Opti Tots, Novice ages 6-8

This six-week evening class is geared to children who are comfortable on the water and ready to learn to sail. Our curriculum emphasizes feeling at ease on the water, terminology, basic seamanship and boat handling, and boating safety. Kids with previous Opti experience can advance to sailing solo. Kids will also enjoy learning to paddle kayaks and sailing the Club FJ or Sunfish with an instructor or parent. Parents/guardians are encouraged to participate in 1 or 2 classes depending on class size. Cost: $195, includes t-shirt. Evenings: 5:30 - 7:30PM

  • Thursday, June 29 - Aug 3

Opti Seaman, Beginner ages 7-9

This one week, half-day class introduces basic seamanship, including rigging, and steering. Through classroom and on-the-water activities, kids are introduced to water safety, boat controls, basic sailing maneuvers, basic seamanship, wind direction, sailing a course, and STEM activities. Costs: $195 (*150), includes t-shirt. Morning, 9AM - Noon

  • Session 2: July 3 - July 7 (*No class July 4)
  • Session 3: July 17 - July 21
  • Session 4: July 24 - July 28

Opti Mate Intermediate age 8-10 (40+lbs)

*Some previous experience recommended.
This two week, half-day class is a continuation of the Opti Seaman course. In addition to basic seamanship such as rules of the road, kids are introduced to beginner racing and advanced boat handling. Students will experience the Bay with long sails, and STEM activities. Costs: $385 (*340), includes t-shirt. Afternoon, 1 - 4PM

Opti Skipper Advanced Ages 8-11

This all day one week class is an introduction into the fun of junior racing. The program offers confident solo skippers the opportunity to learn and develop their racing skills at the junior level. All our Opti Skippers will expand their skills through daily lessons and reviews of on-the-water drills. Our Opti Skippers will end the week with a fun regatta. Costs: $385, includes t-shirt. All Day Program for one week, 9AM – 3PM
  • Session 1: July 10- July 14
  • Session 2: July 31- August 4

Opti Week, Intermediate, ages 8-11 (40+ lbs)

*Must have basic sailing experience.
Opti Week is a one week, full-day class designed to refine basic sailing skills through on-the-water games, an introduction to charts and navigation with long sails exploring the Bay, and STEM activities. Students will also enjoy trying skills sailing the Sunfish and CFJ, stand-up paddle boarding, and kayaking. An introduction to racing Optis will be offered with a fun regatta to end the week. Costs: $385, includes t-shirt. All Day Program for one week, 9AM – 3PM, Aug 7 – 11
