November. How did we get to November already?
I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful fall weather and getting out on the water to take in the clear, cool days that are always spectacular in the Chesapeake.
November means it is time for the Eastport Yacht Club Annual Meeting. This year’s meeting will be held on Saturday, November 12, at the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel at 1100, with registration beginning at 1000. Full Annual Meeting announcement is further in this issue. Meeting packets with 2015 Annual Meeting Minutes, Officer and Committee Reports, and other meeting materials are online and/or are being snail mailed to the people that did not opt for the online version.
Thank you to the over 240 members who did opt-in for the electronic version — saving EYC several hundreds of dollars in printing and postage, as well as a few trees!
Please plan on attending the Annual Membership Meeting. Members in all membership categories are invited. However, it is imperative that Voting Members attend so that we have a quorum and can conduct the official business of EYC. We must have at least 20% of the Voting Members, 120 people, to have a quorum.
At the Annual Membership Meeting we will have a State of the Ship report from me and Treasurer Clayton Miller. We will vote on the Executive Board for 2017 and announce the 2016 Volunteer of the Year, in addition to other EYC traditions, business and updates.
If you are unable to attend the meeting in person, please ask a friend to represent you. Be sure they have a proxy form with your signature authorizing them to vote on your behalf. Proxy forms for the Annual Meeting are available on the member side of the EYC website and are in the Annual Meeting packet.
After the Annual Membership Meeting, roll back to EYC for the Founders Day Party. All members who attended the Annual Meeting will get a coupon for a free drink at the Founders Day Party. In addition, Chef Henry will be providing amazing goodies to nosh and there will be drink specials including $3 Mt. Gay drinks and $4 EYC Rum Punch.
The Founders Day Party is EYC's Homecoming and is a time to tell stories, share a drink (or two, or three) with each other, and celebrate all that we love about Eastport Yacht Club. What is YOUR favorite EYC story or memory? Be ready to share it! Have a GREAT picture of an EYC event or EYC members? Bring along a copy to post.
Other events that are happening this month include, Saturday, November 5, the Tug-O-War and the Fish 4 A Cure Fishing Tournament — please see details for both of these important events and join the efforts! Be advised that Saturday night, November 5, we will have limited seating and menu due to the Fish 4 A Cure event, so please volunteer to help that night instead of planning to eat in the dining room.
Sunday, November 13, is the Lights Parade Artists’ Reception when this year’s poster will be unveiled. BTW, Lights Parade registration OPEN. This year’s Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade will be Saturday, December 10, 2016.
Registration is also open on the EYC website for the Norm Baldwin Fishing Memorial Rockfish Tournament, December 3.
As we head into November and the racing season comes to a close, I must give a huge shout-out to Keith Jacobs and the entire Race Committee who have had a marathon fall. In the past few weeks, the Race Committee have done EYC proud and run an amazing number of high profile races including three Championship regattas and the start for the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race! Whooo-hooo!
Racing continues this month, albeit at a different pace, with the Leftover Bowl, Saturday after Thanksgiving and Frostbite Racing starting Sunday, November 6 — my personal solution to the winter blues! Join us on the water for some fun racing.
Sundays continue to be Sunday Funday at EYC with our fabulous brunch starting at 10:00 am with $2 Bloodies, Mimosas, and Screwdivers until 2:00 pm. The day continues with our Sunday NFL Game Day specials — wings, chili dogs, and nachos, plus $2 Natty Boh — in addition to the usual Sunday specials of $2 tacos. I don’t know about you, but I am in serious need of some Sunday Fundays at EYC.
If you are like me and have no idea where time is evaporating to these days, a reminder that Thanksgiving is on November 24! Holy cow! How is THIS possible? Please remember, the club will be closed for the entire day so that our staff can enjoy the holiday.
And since we are talking about Thanksgiving, the holidays must be right around the corner. Ack! To get a jump on your holiday shopping in a comfortable setting ... and with a drink in hand! ... the Outfitters are hosting a Holiday Arts & Crafts Night on Thursday, November 17, from 5- 9 p.m. at EYC. Outfitters have selected a group of local artists who work in a variety of media, so there should be something for almost everyone on your shopping list. PLUS there will be holiday cocktails and snacks! Count me in!
Happy Thanksgiving to all—we all have lots for which to be thankful!
See you around the Club.
