December 1, 2016: Tis the season to make merry and celebrate. EYC certainly knows how to celebrate and this holiday season promises to be one fantastic celebration after another around the club.
To get the season off to an appropriate start – and in such EYC fashion! – the Get Your Elf On Holiday Party will be Saturday, December 3, 6:00-until the last elf drops. This not-to-be-missed party will without doubt bring frivolity to your life! Don your elf attire and come check out the new holiday decorations. Wear your elf hat and get a drink ticket; wear a name tag with your elf name and get a drink ticket. I promise merriment will abound!
Also on Saturday, December 3, in celebration of the life of one of our members, the Norm Baldwin Memorial Rockfish Tournament will hit the water and will wind up at the Club in the evening. There is still time to register.
Celebrate & Donate! The EYC Foundation is celebrating their incredibly successful year of serving over 800 local students through their programs and scholarships. Join the celebration and participate in the fundraising auction on Wednesday, December 7, from 5:00-8:00 pm. The auction has some great items that can make fantastic holiday gifts!
EYC's holiday gift to Annapolis hits the water on Saturday, December 10. The Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade will be even more special this year after being cancelled last year due to the fire at AYC. Please be sure to check out the evening's details and be sure to adhere to the guest limits so that all of our members can enjoy the parade from the clubhouse.
If you are willing to bundle up, the EYC docks are a great place to watch the parade. It is actually my favorite spot, because the boats come right up to the end of the docks and do their best performances, since that is where the judges' boats are located!
Another thing to celebrate is that the Lights Parade was nominated as one of the 10 Best Holiday Parades by USA Today! We are hoping to have an even bigger celebration when we WIN the title of Best Holiday Parade! Be sure to vote every day through Monday, December 5.
One of the sweetest celebrations we have at EYC will be on Saturday, December 17, 11:00 am. The annual Children's Gingerbread House Party is always a spectacular event and the gingerbread masterpieces created are amazing. Santa knows this is a not-to-be-missed event, and makes his appearance in true EYC style via boat. This is a sell-out event, so please make your reservations and if you can not make it, please be sure to let the office know, as there is always a waiting list.
For those of us without children, this event is worth witnessing and is sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Plan on having lunch at the club that day, get a drink, sit back, and enjoy the spectacle.
The EYC staff is definitely something to celebrate. We have an amazing group who works very hard to make sure we all have a good time. Please join me in celebrating our staff with a cash gift to the Staff Holiday Fund. Gifts can be called or mailed into the office.
In order for our staff to have time to celebrate the holidays with their families and friends, EYC will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Come celebrate the last hours of the 2016 with your fellow EYCers. In true EYC style, New Year's Eve is a dress-as-you-want event and there is something for everyone. In the dining room there will be a Family New Year's Eve dinner from 5:30-7:30 for our youngest members and their families and for those who like to be in bed early. The finale of the early bird New Year's Eve will be the 7:30 fireworks display.
Special dinner options will continue until 10:30, reservations are a must for the dining room. After 10:30, savory and sweet small plates will be available throughout the clubhouse and the party will kick up with music and dancing.
Personally, I am not a huge fan of New Year's Eve, but last year's party at EYC was perfect with this format and a great time was had by all. Dinner was there for those who wanted a formal dinner, and there was bar food for those who wanted bar food. Those who wanted to dress up, dressed up (if you want to break out that formal dress or tuxedo, go for it!) and others were happy in their jeans. It's EYC, come as you want!
The most joyous of celebrations of this month comes on December 21st at 5:44 am – the Winter Solstice! YAY! Welcome back SUN!
Happy Winter Solstice and Happy Holidays to you and yours!
I am looking forward to celebrating this year and the coming year with all of you,
