January 1, 2013:  Welcome to 2013. What a 2012 it was. Life at EYC started in the double-wides we lovingly referred to as Juanitaville Mobile Estates and ended in our beautiful new clubhouse. The opening of the new building represents the culmination of a five-year journey starting with the approval of the future fund and ending with November’s fabulous opening day party. It stands as a testament to the resiliency and vision that the members of EYC possess.

This year will be an exciting and challenging one as we learn to live in our new clubhouse. New spaces, new opportunities and new traditions. This is a unique time to become involved in the committees and communities that make up who we are. It has been said before, but your involvement in these groups will only enhance your enjoyment of EYC.

December 23, 2012 : As they say, “Time flies when you are having fun.” And time has flown for me. The last two years have gone by in the blink of an eye. We have accomplished allot and there is much left to do.

As my term as Commodore ends, I want to take a moment to thank each of you who took the time to thank me and the team who brought our dream to fruition. Each and every member of the Club has been instrumental in  the redevelopment effort. We could not have done it without the support that all members have shown the Board. I particularly want to thank Charles Schaller and Jeanne Langdon for all of their help and advice over the last two years. The redeveloped building would not have been possible without their efforts.

We all owe Sharon Hadsell a great big thank you. Sharon has served on the Executive Board for the last 10 years. She has poured her heart and soul into the Eastport Yacht Club and has us better for it. Thank you, Sharon.

November 27, 2012: It has been an honor to serve as your Commodore for the last two years. Much has been accomplished and much needs to be done. But first I want to thank those members who served on my Executive Board.

Without the concerted efforts of David Malkin, Charles Schaller, Scott Miller, Jeanne Langdon, Sharon Hadsell and Rob Rowlands none of the progress that we have seen would have been possible. Each of them deserves a hearty thank you from all of us for the time, dedication and talent that they showed in putting together the building plan and dealing with all of the issues that we faced over the last two years. Thank you guys. We all owe you one.

December 2, 2012: A Day in the life of EYC

I thought that it might be interesting to look at what a day in the life of EYC was like in order to better understand why the Club is as successful as it is and why our members are so loyal to it.

The day was yesterday, December 1, 2012. It started at 4:30 a.m. in the pre-dawn darkness not long after the Club closed and was cleaned up from the Friday night activities. A group of bleary eyed fishermen gathered on the docks to prepare their boats for our annual fishing tournament, "The Norm." You will recall our departed friend Norm Baldwin who left us three years ago. Norm was an avid fisherman and Race Committee member who would often spend his time on his boat running races and fishing during breaks in the action.

November 11, 2012: Here's a little ditty composed by Merf Moerschel we wanted to share with you:

Well we’re movin’ on up
To our new club
With a de-luxe view of the Bay!
Movin’ on up
To our new club
We’re finally underway!
Juanitaville is history
The Roach Coach gone too!
Took a whole lotta trying
Just to get the new club done
Now we’re up and runnin’
Gettin’ used to our new digs
As long as we stay EYC
There ain’t nothin’ wrong with that!
Well we’re movin’ on up
To our new club
With a de-luxe view of the Bay!
Movin’ on up
To our new club
We’re finally underway!
