What Level is Your Sailor?

NOVICE - Ages 6-8:
No sailing experiences. First time sailors who are comfortable around the water and wearing a personal flotation device (PFD).

SEAMAN - Beginner:
No (minimum) sailing experience required. Focus on boating safety, terminology, wind awareness, basic sail trim, and steering a course.

MATE - Intermediate:
Proficient at basic sailing. Introduction to rules of the road, basic navigation, boat and sail controls, expanded tiller time, upwind sailing, and intro to racing.

SKIPPER - Advanced:
Capable skipper and crew. Focus on advanced boat handling, course sailing, starting a race, racing rules, tactics, and strategy in both skipper and crew roles.

Junior Fleet Mission Statement

The Mission of the Eastport Yacht Club Jr. Fleet is to support a Learn-to-Sail and Learn-to-Boat program that teaches student the basics of boat handling, seamanship, safety, and sportsmanship. The program strives to develop competence and confidence in our sailors in a safe and fun learning environment.

EYC offers sailing lessons to kids ages 6-15 and adults 16 and up. US Sailing Certified instructors with First Aid and CPR training teach all classes. The EYC program emphasizes safety, learning, and foremost FUN, by teaching sailing, seamanship, navigational skills, plus an introduction to racing. Our program helps participants develop self-reliance, self-regulation, sportsmanship, knowledge and respect for the environment while ensuring boating safety awareness. With a combination of classroom and on the- water time, classes are designed to teach the basic skills of sailing and boating to beginners and to help hone the skills of more advanced students. The EYC Learn-to-Sail and Boat Program uses the following types of boats: Optimist, Sunfish, Club FJ, J-22, kayak, paddleboard, and Boston whaler.

Who Can Take Our Classes?

The EYC program is open to members and nonmember kids and adults. Registration is on a first come basis with limited class sizes. Priority is given to members, as well as non-members who have been in our program before.

Fees and Discounts

EYC members receive a ~15% discount on all courses. Plus we offer a 10% Multi Family & Session Discount to all! We also offer an Early Bird Registration (before March 15, 2018) discount.

Refund Policy

We refund 100% for cancellations 30 days prior to the start date and 50% refund if cancelled less than 30 days. We make exceptions for family emergencies.

Become An Eastport Yacht Club Member

You do not have to be a boat owner to join the Eastport Yacht Club, but we look for a strong interest in boating and a willingness to participate in a volunteer-based club community. In addition to the best views in Annapolis, EYC offers its membership a Member Access Program to utilize our fleet of watercraft.

We have on and off the water activities for all ages including our signature events such as the Lights Parade, July 4th Celebration, Blue Angels BBQ, and more.
