What is Your Sailor's Level?

Novice: No sailing experience. Ages 6-8. First time sailors who are comfortable in the water with wearing a personal flotation device (PFD).

Seaman - Beginner: No sailing experience or moving up from Opti. Focus on boating safety, sailing terminology, wind awareness, basic sailing maneuvers, basic seamanship, and sailing a course.

Mate - Intermediate: Have basic sailing skills and know terminology. Introduction to rules of the road, basic navigation, boat controls, skippering, upwind course sailing, and an intro to racing.

Skipper - Advanced: Proficient skippers and crews who want to advance their boat handling skills. Focus on starting a race, racing rules, course sailing, tactics and strategy, and advance boat controls. All learners will experience skipper and crew roles.

Junior Fleet Mission Statement

The Mission of the Eastport Yacht Club Jr. Fleet is to support a Learn-to-Sail and Learn-to-Boat program that teaches student the basics of boat handling, seamanship, safety, and sportsmanship. The program strives to develop competence and confidence in our sailors in a safe and fun learning environment.

EYC offers sailing lessons to kids ages 6-15 and adults 16 and up. US Sailing Certified instructors with First Aid and CPR training teach all classes. The EYC program emphasizes safety, learning, and foremost FUN, by teaching sailing, seamanship, navigational skills, plus an introduction to racing. Our program helps participants develop self-reliance, self-regulation, sportsmanship, knowledge and respect for the environment while ensuring boating safety awareness. With a combination of classroom and on the- water time, classes are designed to teach the basic skills of sailing and boating to beginners and to help hone the skills of more advanced students. The EYC Learn-to-Sail and Boat Program uses the following types of boats: Optimist, Sunfish, Club FJ, J-22, kayak, paddleboard, and Boston whaler.

Who Can Take Our Classes?

The EYC program is open to members and nonmember kids and adults. Registration is on a first come basis with limited class sizes. Priority is given to members, as well as non-members who have been in our program before.

Fees and Discounts

In addition to our tuition, there is an EYC non-member fee of $65 per season, which includes additional family member taking the lessons. Early Bird Discount (before March 15, 2017) is $20.

Refund Policy

We refund 100% for cancellations 30 days prior to the start date and 50% refund if cancelled less than 30 days. We make exceptions for family emergencies.

Become An Eastport Yacht Club Member

You do not have to be a boat owner to join the Eastport Yacht Club, but we look for a strong interest in boating and willingness to participate in a volunteer-based club community. EYC offers activities on and off the water for all ages, including racing, cruising, boating lessons, a member access program and signature events such as the annual Lights Parade, Leukemia Cup, Fish for a Cure, and more. EYC has the best water view in Annapolis located at the entrance of the Severn River and Spa Creek.
