Your Sailor’s Level

What is Your Sailor's Level?

Novice: No sailing experience. Ages 6-8. First time sailors who are comfortable in the water with wearing a personal flotation device (PFD).

Seaman - Beginner: No sailing experience or moving up from Opti. Focus on boating safety, sailing terminology, wind awareness, basic sailing maneuvers, basic seamanship, and sailing a course.

Mate - Intermediate: Have basic sailing skills and know terminology. Introduction to rules of the road, basic navigation, boat controls, skippering, upwind course sailing, and an intro to racing.

Skipper - Advanced: Proficient skippers and crews who want to advance their boat handling skills. Focus on starting a race, racing rules, course sailing, tactics and strategy, and advance boat controls. All learners will experience skipper and crew roles.

Learn to Sail and Powerboat the Fun Way!

The Eastport Yacht Club offers sailing and powerboating classes for kids 6 to 15 years and adults 16 and up. All classes are taught by US Sailing certified instructors with First Aid and CPR training, and subject to background checks. Our programs focus on safety and learning with an emphasis on FUN for beginners through advanced. The EYC Learn-to-Boat program uses Optimist Prams, Sunfish, FJs, and J-22s for sailing and the power boat program uses Boston Whalers. We also utilize our fleet of paddleboards and kayaks to expand the fun.

Who Can Take Our Classes?

The EYC program is open to members and nonmember kids and adults. Registration is on a first come basis with limited class sizes.

Fees and Discounts

In addition to tuition, there is an EYC non-member fee of $65 per season. One per family per year. We also offer an Early Bird (before March 15, 2017) discount.

Refund Policy

We refund 100% for cancellations 30 days prior to the start date and 50% refund if cancelled less than 30 days. We make exceptions for family emergencies.

Now Accepting Applications for 2017 Instructors

Instructors must be a minimum of 16 yrs. old, have strong dinghy sailing and powerboat experience. Prior teaching experience or working with kids a plus. All sailing instructor candidates must have Level 1, CPR, and 1st Aid, and criminal background check by start of classes. Instructors in training must be a 15 yrs. by start of program.
