The Commodore's Corner

February 15, 2012:  Things continue to move ahead. BG&E showed up today and removed the old transformer. Consequently, there is no power in the Clubhouse or the marina. Those marina tenants who absolutely need some temporary power will be able to run extension cords from one of two outlets that were installed between A and B docks. The outlets were put in to power our ice eaters so anyone requiring power will only be able to use it for brief periods.

On other fronts, we have been able to buy a used jib crane that we will be installing over at the Annapolis Sailing School. Arrangements are being completed at this time, however, it is our intent to have the crane operational by April 1 when dry sail boats will need to vacate the Annapolis Yacht Club. By doing this, the Club will be providing temporary storage for the dry sail boats so that they continue to race and sail while construction continues on the renovated Clubhouse.

I want to take one moment to thank Valerie Taylor, Jan O'Brien and Ann Harrington for putting together one of the most entertaining Commodore's Ball in years. Everything was just right in the N Room at the Navy Marine Corp Memorial Stadium. Thank you guys.

Winter is the time for seminars and EYC did it big time on last Saturday. The Bermuda Ocean Race Committee held theirs at the Eastport Fire Station because the crowd had grown so large. Over 125 people had pre-registered for the event while another 40 people gathered in Juanitaville Mobile Estates for a Cruise Committee seminar. All in all quite a day.

This Sunday we will officially open Juanitaville. All members are invited to join us as we "Occupy Juanitaville" from 4 - 7. Bring a sign or a tent and join the fun.
