EYC SIGNATURE EVENTS

Parties? We have the best in Annapolis! Most EYC events are casual by nature, but the Club gathers annually for the Commodore’s Ball (our only formal event). We sponsor many community oriented events such as the fund raising Leukemia Cup Regatta and the infamous Spring Cotillion–held outside in mid- June just prior to the start of the Annapolis Bermuda Ocean Race. This event features live music and a great rum punch, and is everything but the formal soiree the former event’s name suggests! Actually, it was started in honor of those folks who make-up the vitality of Eastport: the boatyard workers and watermen of the Bay. EYC hosted the world’s largest and most memorable sailors’ welcome party for the crews of the 1998 Whitbread Ocean Race during the Annapolis stopover. More than 5000 sailors attended—in the pouring rain! We did it again 2002 and 2005 with the Annapolis Salute to the Volvo Ocean Race—the party the VOR crews and sailors around the world had been looking forward to since 1998. When the VOR route changed and no longer came up the Chesapeake, we used our energies to organize another terrific party, the annual Boat Show Bash in October, which brings locals, visitors, and the maritime community together for an evening of celebration.
