October 25, 2012: We are “approaching the finish line” of our renovation project. As I write this article we have passed two of our first final inspections and we seem to be progressing nicely. There are still a number of items that need to be accomplished before we can open the doors but it appears our Grand Opening dates are not in jeopardy. We hope to see you all for the Annual Meeting on Saturday, November 10, at 11a.m. at the Annapolis Maritime Museum. The festivities will begin thereafter at the NEW Eastport Yacht Club! Don’t miss the first party in the new clubhouse as we begin yet another chapter in the rich history of the little club than does!

Construction Update 6/15/12

Those of you watching the web cam have seen that the club is beginning to resemble what will be its finished form.  The siding is going up and the front porch columns should be in soon.  We are excited to be approaching another milestone, the installation of drywall.  We anticipate rough in inspections next week and if all goes well we should be hanging drywall the following week.  It may seem quiet from the outside but they have been moving along rapidly on the interior and it is looking terrific!  We are also finalizing our equipment orders for the kitchen and bar and we currently have two BIG exhaust hoods sitting in what will be our dining room awaiting inspection before they can be hung in the kitchen.

October 1, 2012:  Finally, I believe there is a light at the end of our “renovation tunnel.” As most of our members are fully aware the site work is now in full swing and the final phases of the interior are moving along nicely. As I write this article we have received favorable inspections for our fire system as well as the elevators and more are right behind. The inside of our new clubhouse looks great even with a number of final details still not in place. I look forward to sharing the experience with all of our members and hope you share the excitement that all of us who are actively involved with the project are now experiencing. Of course the looming question from all involved is “When will we be in?” Obviously this is a tough question to answer but we are currently anticipating the end of October. The site work where the trailers currently reside will likely continue into late November. This precludes any problems with final inspections but we are optimistic that our ongoing communication and relationships with the various inspectors will make for a smooth transition from construction to occupancy.

We poured concrete on Thursday and although we lost a day to rain Wednesday everything was set without any issues and the framing has begun. This and next week will likely be the big WOW factor weeks since we will for the first time see the framing of the building. Next week the steel for the concrete deck will be put in place and we should see our new concrete upper deck poured in about two weeks.
