The Junior Sailing Program has a lot of ongoing projects. The club's big spring cleanup is scheduled for 4/19 and the Jr. program needs volunteers. If you would like to pitch in contact Jr. Fleet Chair Holly O'Hare.

In addition to the application you need to complete a medical form. Please download program info and medical form and return completed medical form by the first day of classes. The Mission of the Eastport Yacht Club Jr. Fleet is to support a Learn-to-Sail program that teaches student the basics of boathandling, seamanship, safety, and sportsmanship. The program strives to develop competence and confidence in our sailors in a safe and fun learning environment.
The program is open to EYC member’s and nonmember’s children/grandchildren between the ages of 8-14. Discounts are offered to EYC, AYC, and SSA members. Enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis so Sign up Today!
Opti Sailing
Our Opti classes offer instruction for beginner and advanced sailors. Our Beginner Class introduces the child to basic seamanship, including rigging, steering, and beginner and intermediate sailing. Emphasis is placed on safety, learning, and fun! Through classroom and on-the-water activities, students are introduced to water safety, boat controls (main sheet and tiller), basic sailing maneuvers (tacking and jibing), basic seamanship (knot tying, rigging/derigging), wind direction, and sailing a course. Our classes are for children ages 8-11 (50-110lbs). Our New Advanced Class focuses on beginner racing including boat handling, mark rounding, starting, tactics, and tackling the race course. *Must have previous Opti sailing experience for Advanced class.
Beginner Morning: 9 am - Noon Advanced Afternoon: 1 pm - 4 pm
CFJ Sailing
Our CFJ classes offer instruction for beginner and advanced sailors. All of our classes build on previous skills and is designed for our older students. Our classes are for children ages 10-14 . Our Beginner Class curriculum emphasizes terminology, basic seamanship (knot tying, rigging/derigging), basic boat handling (steering, sail trim, capsize recovery), and course sailing. Our New Advanced Class builds on beginner skills and focus on advanced boat handling including spinnaker work, roll tacking, mark rounding, starting, tactics, and tackling the race course. *Must have previous double handed sailing experience for Advanced class.
Beginner Morning: 9 am - Noon Advanced Afternoon: 1 pm - 4 pm.
Adult Sailing
Our New Adult Sailing Program is taught in the CFJ and focuses on the fundamental skills covered in our Beginner Class. No experience necessary. 5 Monday Evenings: 6PM-Sundown

All our instructors are US SAILING Level 1, CPR, and First Aid certified. They come highly recommended with a great track record for hands-on instruction.

Aubrey Nightswander hails from Port Clinton, OH where she was the Head Instructor/Race Coach for the Port Clinton Yacht Club. She is a Junior at St. John's College and while in school she works as the boathouse steward for the college sailing and crew team. She is also a big soccer player. Aubrey has lots of experience teaching/coaching/racing in the Opti, FJ, 420, Laser, and Thistle. We look forward to having Aubrey at the Eastport Yacht Club. |

Conner Blounin hails from Tampa, FL where he was a sailing coach for 3 years at the Davis Island Youth Sailing Foundation. He is a sophomore at Washington College and sails on the the college dinghy team. Conner is an experienced Opti, 420, and CFJ racer and we look forward to having him as our CFJ instructor. |

Brendan Heussler is a senior at Severn School and a member of the Varsity Sailing Team. He has served as a volunteer instructor at Severn Sailing Association and John R. Turney Sailing Center in Chautauqua, NY. We look forward to having him as our CFJ instructor. |

Shawn Murray is a senior at Archbishop Spalding High School and on the Varsity Sailing team. He has been sailing at SSA since 1998 and actively raced on the Opti and 420 race teams. He will be attending the College of Charleston in the fall and hopes to join the sailing team. We are excited to have Shawn as part of our staff. |
Optimist Dinghy
Designed for sailors weighing 50-120 lbs., the Optimist Dinghy has become the world standard for introductory junior trainers. Our Opti class is designed for students ages 8-11. We have 10 new club owned boats and will take students with privately owned boats. Class size is limited.
Club Flying Junior
A popular junior trainer, the CFJ is a light, tough, agile performer. The CFJ tacks and accelerates quickly, making the best use of restricted sailing areas. Its large comfortable buoyancy tanks ensure that the CFJ is both self rescuing and safe. Our CFJ class is designed for students ages 11-14. Students will sail in groups of 2-3 per boat. Class size is limited.
