Well,
our Bylaws and the Rules of the Alcoholic Beverage Commission
(ABC) do not allow us to have guests at the Club unless
they are with a Member and signed in as his or her guest.
EYC is a private club and until you are voted in, your
access to EYC is restricted to being signed in as a guest
of a Member in good standing.
Some
EYC events do allow non-members or prospective members
to attend as signed-in volunteers. How do you find out
about these events? Well, as you read the monthly View
from the Bridge (which you currently receive while you
are on the Wait List) AND you talk to your sponsor/endorser/friends,
you will see that there are a few big events at EYC that
take a lot of volunteers to run.
The
most recent two are Spring Cotillion (June) and Solomon's
Island Race (July). Volunteering will get you over to
the Club, and introduce you to more Members. The EYC Lights
Parade is not until December of every year, but the volunteers
and EYC Members involved in that event meet all year round.
That event needs a lot of volunteers and some of those
volunteers are not EYC members.
Another
source of "volunteerism" is to read the boating section/calendar
of our local newspaper, The Capital (www.hometownannapolis.com).There
are several local community groups who meet at EYC on
a regular basis that you can get involved with. In addition,
the boating calendar listing in The Capital will state
whether there are any volunteers needed for an event at
EYC and a phone number to call (the last two in the paper
were Santa Maria Cup in May and Solomon's Island Race
in July).
In
addition, if there is a particular EYC committee area
or event that you are interested in, call up the Chairperson
or contact person for that event and ask if there are
any events in the near future that you can help with.
Be sure to mention that you are a prospective member currently
on the Wait List.
So,
as you can see, there are several options for getting
over to the Club a little more to get you a little more
involved in EYC until you are considered for membership.
This Club is a sucess because of its volunteers. It is
never too early to start volunteering a little and participate
in the friendliest Club in town!
