2018 Leukemia Cup June 1-2
New Races, Participation Opportunities Added
The 2018 Leukemia Cup sails into town in a few weeks, bringing some exciting new changes, including feeder races from St. Michaels and Herring Bay. Racing registration is open at eastportyc.org/leukemia-cup, and all of the details are in the Notice of Regatta. But the Leukemia Cup has always been about much more than fun on the water.
The Leukemia Cup began 26 years ago at Eastport Yacht Club and has spread to over 46 sailing communities across the country with over $60 million dollars raised to aid in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission, to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Funds raised in the Annapolis Leukemia Cup support research and families right here in Maryland including institutions such as Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland.
Our goal for 2018 is to raise $250,000 with 100 boats participating. There are a number of ways to get involved this year and help in the fight, while also celebrating the incredible strides our sailors and fundraisers have made in the fight against blood cancers including the Triple Crown Trophy, Summer Cocktail Party, and Rock the Dock for a Cure.
EYC sailors -- of both racing cruising persuasions -- are active participants in this signature event. But it's possible to be a member of Team EYC without going out on the water. Check out eastportyc.org/team-eyc to find out how to make a contribution in support of a fellow EYCer's fund raising campaign.
Triple Crown Trophy
This year, the Leukemia Cup Regatta is proud to be one of three charity sailing events part of the NEW Triple Crown of Charity Sailing Trophy, sponsored by Weems & Plath. The CRAB (Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating) and Hospice Cup mark the second and third race skippers can compete in for the Triple Crown Trophy. In order to compete for the trophy, skippers must race and fundraise in all three events.
The Triple Crown Trophy is awarded to the skipper raising the most funds for each charity and finishing highest in all three races. The trophy presentation will be held in October. The Annapolis Leukemia Cup is the first on the three races held on June 2, followed by the CRAB Cup August 18, and the Hospice Cup September 15.Read more ...
