Pre-Season Race Committee Training

Please be certain to mark your calendar for all of the Race Committee's upcoming training events. Online signup is available to be sure your space is reserved.

Tom Stalder will present his popular GPS Training class on Saturday, 17 March, 9 a.m. - noon.  Tom will cover the explanation how GPS positioning works and lead participants in a practical exercise that lets everyone practice navigating around the EYC parking lot.

The annual RC Training Day is set for Saturday, 7 April, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. We will cover in the morning many of the race committee “basics,” as they pertain to our EYC activities.  Following lunch at the Club, we will head out on the water and put to use what we learned in the morning.  RC Training Day has been a popular introduction to our activities for new members and an effective way to shake off the winter rust as we head into the new season.

Finally, as part of our on-going effort help ensure that both race committee and racers are “on the same page” we will convene a Racers' Forum on 22 April, 3 - 4 p.m.  The idea is to allow Race Committee to outline race requirements (as defined in the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions) and expectations, and offer racers the opportunity to ask questions of the Race Committee.  We hope you will come join us for this interactive discussion.

Why sign up for Race Committee duty? Read what a serious racer, who also is deeply involved in race management, has to say on the subject. If you are an active, retired, or wannabe racer, you might want to consider spending some time on another kind of boat ... the Race Committee boat.

Boat Owners: Race Committee Wants YOU!

Are you willing to spend a few hours, a day, or a weekend on the water in support of the EYC Race Committee? If you haven’t tried it, you’ll be surprised at how much fun it can be to join with fellow EYCers in the best seats available for watching club, local, regional, and even national and world-level events.

Lack of experience is no hindrance to joining one of the most interesting committees in your yacht club. In addition to having teammates with plenty of experience and knowledge, Race Committee also offers a series of training sessions each spring. Those who are bitten by the Race Committee bug can pursue additional education through programs provided by USSailing and USPowerBoating as they move along through experience levels.

Pre-race briefings and post-race “lessons learned” sessions are part of every event, and Race Committee provides lunch on the water and a cocktail when the day is done. (You might even earn some cool regatta gear to wear and proudly show your involvement.)

Needed are boats of many sizes, from small mark-tending craft to larger boats suitable as the main signal boat.

Can’t commit to a whole weekend, or even a full day with the Race Committee? There are also plenty of openings for the Fawcett Friday Night Beer Can Series. For more information, please contact Tom Stalder, This email address is being protected from spambots.
