Holiday Fun at EYC

EYCTreeWinter is here but the fun goes on indoors at EYC in December, starting with Decorating the Clubhouse and a festive 'Get Your Elf On' Party that evening, followed by the Lights Parade, Cookie Exchange, Children's Gingerbread House Party, New Year's Eve Celebration and on into 2018 with the annual New Year's Day Football & Pot Luck Extravaganza!

Our Dining Room service schedule will have a few interruptions, but remember that when the dining room's closed, the bar and deck remain open. Don't forget that brunch will be available at the club on Sundays, December 24 and 31.

Many EYC holiday events are casual, drop-in affairs, but some require reservations. These always go quickly, so DON'T WAIT. Whatever events you choose, don't forget to bring a contribution to put in one of the large decorated boxes in the lobby. We're collecting again this year for the Light House Shelter and SPCA's Presents for Paws.

On Saturday, December 2, join the hijinks at the 'Get Your Elf On' Party, starting at 5 p.m. Save your pot luck recipe for New Year's Day, come help finish the decorating, enjoy small plate specials in the bar along with cocktail specials like a Cranberry Cordial or Eggnog Shooter! Chief Chef Elf Henry, using his elf name of Tootsie Toe-Bells, will have fantastic holiday specials along with his regular menu for the dining room as well as the bar.

ElvesHangoverBrunchWebWear your elf hat or wear a name tag with your elf name printed on it and get a drink ticket. Check the flyers around the clubhouse or the website on how to find your elf name and then come on in for your libation. Hideous holiday sweaters welcome!

Don't forget to wear your 'jammies to brunch the next morning!Dirty Blonde 20

Lights Parade on Saturday, December 9, is a members-only event at the clubhouse. In addition to immediate family (living under the same roof), each member may bring no more than two guests ($10 each). Instead of our regular dinner service, a buffet supper will be available for $19 for adults and $9 for children. See the menu here.

The clubhouse will close at 3 p.m. and reopen at 5 for Lights Parade. The show glitters on the water between 6 and 8 p.m. Please remember that parking will be a particular challenge and make your transportation plans accordingly. Outfitters will be on hand betwen 5 and 9:30 p.m. for your holiday shopping convenience.

The next afternoon, Sunday, December 10, is reserved for the 6th Annual EYC Cookie Exchange starting at 4 p.m. this year Get more details here on this event that has become an important club tradition.

S09gingerbread17peaking of important club traditions, everyone with children or grandchildren looks forward to the annual Children's Gingerbread House Building Party, complete with lunch and a visit from Santa! The fun begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 16. Parents, please bring $5, two tubes of icing, and candy decorations to share for each child.

THIS EVENT HAS SOLD OUT. Sorry, but walk-ins cannot be accommodated. A WAIT LIST is forming. (And if you have reservations you find you won't be using, please contact the office immediately so other children can be accommodated. Thank you.)

ElfJayIf you can't get space at the decorating party for your children or grandchildren, don't despair! They're all welcome to join the fun to welcome Santa as he arrives around noon (by boat, weather permitting) and stick around for a chat and a photo or two with the Jolly Old Elf.

After brunch on the 24th, the clubhouse will close at 3 p.m. and remain closed all day on Monday, December 25, to reopen at noon as usual on Tuesday, December 26.

Then it's time to think about the turning of the year. Brunch will be available until 2 p.m. on December 31, when the kitchen will switch to a limited menu in anticipation of the big night.

Celebrate the arrival of 2018 with great spin on an old tradition. Our New Year's dinner runs from 6 until 10 p.m. with specials for the kids, and some very festive special selections for the adults, plus a limited regular menu for both. Reservations are strongly recommended.

There will be plenty of music and food and beverages available past the midnight fireworks, along with a champagne toast at midnight, so plan on spending your NY's Eve with your friends at the best fireworks viewing spot in town.

Then keep the party going on New Year’s Day at your favorite yacht club. One of our favorite traditions: the New Year’s Day Football and Pot Luck Extravaganza! The kitchen will be closed, but the bar will be open. There's no cover charge, but be sure to bring cash to tip the bartenders and a $20 bill or two for the 50/50 raffle to benefit the EYC Juniors! Bring something delicious to share, whether it be something you’ve whipped up specially, last night’s leftovers, or even takeout for the culinarily challenged. Bring your own trays, crock pots, extension cords, serving utensils, too (and don’t forget to take them home); the kitchen and its contents will not be available. The fun starts at 11:30 a.m. and runs through the end of the Rose Bowl game.

Our Chesapeake Seafood Bake was a huge success and everyone enjoyed a big bucket containing a lobster along with clams, mussels and shrimp prepared by Chef Henry along with sides of corn on the cob, potatoes, salad and brownies. This was a sold-out event and if you missed it look for it next year when we will do it again.

There is more fun to be enjoyed in December so eat your Wheaties and get ready for the fun to begin.

On Saturday, December 2, we will enjoy our holiday decorations along with the now infamous ‘Get Your Elf On!’ party. The fun begins at 6 p.m. Wear your elf hat or wear a name tag with your elf name printed on it and get a drink ticket.

Our drink specials will be Santa’s Little Helper and Rudolph’s Red Nose. You need to come in and find out what they are and we will discover if it’s true that Elves can hold their shot drinks, or maybe not…

Chief Chef Elf Henry will have some fantastic holiday specials along with small plate specials for us to enjoy that evening. Check the flyers around the clubhouse or the website on how to find your elf name. Wear your most prized Hideous Holiday Sweater.

Wear your jammies and elf hat and come recover with the rest of the elves the next day at 11 a.m. at the Elves Hangover Brunch.

Saturday, December 16, brings our annual, highly anticipated make-a-Gingerbread House event for kids and their parents. This is a fun event and sells out quickly every time. Reservations are required, and space is limited. Watch for the flyers and website to make your reservation. Walk-ins cannot be accommodated, sorry.

The next day, the 17th, will be a fun Celebration of Christmas with our 6th Annual EYC Cookie Exchange starting at 4 p.m. Once again it will be a friendly, but tasty competition. Check the flyers around the clubhouse and the website for more details about this yummy event.

Then it’s time to think about the turning of the year. Celebrate the arrival of 2018 and Save the Date: Sunday, December 31. Our New Year’s Eve Dinner runs from 6 until 10 p.m. with specials for the kids, and some very festive specials for the adults, plus a limited regular menu for both. A great party with an evening full of music, dancing, food and beverage, and a champagne toast at midnight.

Have a look around the clubhouse and website for the details, but plan on welcoming the New Year at your favorite club with the very best view in town of the fireworks. Reservations are strongly recommended.

As with every holiday season we’ll keep to our commitment of remembering the less fortunate in our community. We will take donations for the Lighthouse Shelter and the local SPCA shelter. We will have 2 donation boxes in the foyer as usual and will remain there for the duration of the holidays. Please check the bulletin board for the items that are needed to help them.

We value your comments and suggestions so please fill out a comment card when you receive it with your bill. You can also find them on the table by the hostess stand.

Reminder: The House Committee meets every month on the first Wednesday at 6:30 in the conference room. All are welcome to attend a meeting and see if you would like to join us on a regular basis.

Upcoming Event for January:

  • January 19th – Wine and Tapas Tasting

Watch the Newsblast and Bulletin Board for more great events brought to you by House Committee.
