Help! I Don't Receive the Weekly Newsblast!

Do you get the weekly Newsblast email on Wednesday mornings? Did you subscribe but your service has either never begun or has stopped? The most likely cause is that our messages to you are being caught in your spam filter, sometimes even farther up the line than the folder you may be able to find on your own.

Most of the time, the cure is simple. In tech-talk, it's called "whitelisting" -- the opposite of blacklisting. In simple terms, it means adding our address to your "safe" list of senders, from whom you want to receive mail. You can allow emails from specific addresses to reach your inbox without being placed in your junk or spam folder by whitelisting those email addresses and adding them to a safe senders list.

Each program has different steps for adding an email address to a safe senders list. Please click on the link for the software you have and follow the instructions. The address most likely to land in your Spam system is the one used for the Newsblast: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. (You may also want to enter other addresses including This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., if they are not already in your address book.) If, however, you have the option to enter a "domain" please enter @eastportyc.org. Find specific instructions for your email service below:

Still stuck? Contact EYC Communications and we'll do our best to help you out!

Please note: If you have inadvertently (or otherwise) unsubscribed from EYC emails, none of this will work until you resubscribe. Because of anti-spam rules, no one can do this for you, you must do it yourself. Just use the "Subscribe" link at the bottom of any EYC website page and then reply to the automated confirmation email you'll receive as a result.

Around the House: October 2017

Theresa Somes

Autumn is here and in traditional EYC style that did not stop us from having fun. We had our fall edition of the EYC Speakeasy by celebrating with 5 different rum drinks and food pairings to enjoy along with a surprise. Our own Resident Cocktail Historian, Mike Thompson, provided us with pirate tidbits and a lot of wonderful information and history about rum and the cocktails we enjoyed. Everyone left with their own souvenir EYC Speakeasy Mug and recipe booklet.

I want to thank Anne, Sean, Nancy, Susan, Glen and Mike for all of their help with this event. I want to give a HUGE THANK YOU to our own Chef Henry for going above and beyond to really make this event happen. We had a few pirates show up to find out – “Why is the Rum always gone?”

We continued to enjoy more fun on International Talk like a Pirate Day with rum and food specials of Crab Balls and Shrimp Scampi.

In October House Committee will be bringing you other great events to enjoy. We will start on Friday, October 13, from 5-9 with Founder’s Day/EYC History Rollout. It’s the anniversary of the day in 1980 when our founders held the inaugural meeting to create Eastport Yacht Club. We are going to party like it’s 1980 to celebrate Founder’s Day with drink specials and Rocco’s Pizza. We will also have a premiere showing of the video. There’s no charge to attend, but your RSVP to eastportyc.org/founders will help us plan.

The long awaited Bourbon and Cigar Night will be on Saturday, October 28, from 6-9. Our host Mark Jones wants you join to us for a night of fun; enjoy a great cigar, taste premium bourbon, and savor food pairings from Chef Henry. This event is for both ladies and gentlemen. Advance reservations will be required as there are only 40 seats available. Keep watch in the clubhouse and weekly Newsblast for more details and online reservations.

We will end the month on October 31 with our own Halloween Party. Save the date and come celebrate with the ghosts, goblins and pumpkins. This will be a Spooktacular Event that you will not want to miss. Keep an eye out for more information in the clubhouse and Newsblast.

I have been asked about the Rhumb Line menu and yes, we still have it. If it’s not in your menu ask your server to bring you one.

We value your comments and suggestions, so please fill out a comment card when you receive it with your bill. You can also find them on the table by the hostess stand.

Save the Date: Our Chesapeake Seafood Bake is back again this fall on Saturday, November 18. I am giving you the early heads-up so you can put it on your calendar and make your reservation as soon as it goes online. This has been a sold-out event – remember the bucket-o-seafood along with sides – so don’t forget to save the date and stay tuned for more details, because tickets are limited.

Reminder: the House Committee meets every month on the first Wednesday at 6:30 in the conference room. All are welcome to attend a meeting and see if you would like to join us on a regular basis.

Upcoming Events for November:

  • November 18 – Chesapeake Seafood Bake

Bourbon & Cigar Tasting

EYC House Committee is bringing back something sophisticated and exciting on Saturday, October 28, with a very special evening featuring premier bourbon and cigars. Reservations are required, and seating is limited.

Pick a cigar from the humidor and sample six premium bourbons, with food pairings for each.

Angel's Envy – The flavor is light, with the mild wood and tart spiciness standing at the forefront, and that maple and vanilla sweetness just behind.

Eagle Rare 10 Year – The rareness of this great breed of bourbon is evident in its complex aroma, as well as the smooth and lingering taste.

Elijah Craig 12 Years Single Barrel – The combination of oak, spice, dark sweets and vanilla creates an overall character of rustic meets sweet.

Ezra Brooks Single Barrel – A nose of cinnamon and oak are found along with added corn and nutmeg. On the palate, the char notes are mixed with cherries. The finish is long with flavors of fruitcake and even more oak showing through.

Four Roses Single Barrel 100 Proof – Plummy and fruity with lots of character and at a higher strength. Notes of spices and chocolate, toffee and vanilla.

Jefferson's Reserve – A well-aged, medium bodied bourbon. Very summery, light and supple bourbon which offers good, clean delivery, pleasant sweetness, hints of cigar leaf, pepper and toffee.

Ticket price (coming soon, with online reservations) covers bourbon tastings, your choice of cigars, and light hors d'oeuvres.
