Help! I Don't Receive the Weekly Newsblast!

Do you get the weekly Newsblast email on Wednesday mornings? Did you subscribe but your service has either never begun or has stopped? The most likely cause is that our messages to you are being caught in your spam filter, sometimes even farther up the line than the folder you may be able to find on your own.

Most of the time, the cure is simple. In tech-talk, it's called "whitelisting" -- the opposite of blacklisting. In simple terms, it means adding our address to your "safe" list of senders, from whom you want to receive mail. You can allow emails from specific addresses to reach your inbox without being placed in your junk or spam folder by whitelisting those email addresses and adding them to a safe senders list.

Each program has different steps for adding an email address to a safe senders list. Please click on the link for the software you have and follow the instructions. The address most likely to land in your Spam system is the one used for the Newsblast: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. (You may also want to enter other addresses including This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., if they are not already in your address book.) If, however, you have the option to enter a "domain" please enter @eastportyc.org. Find specific instructions for your email service below:

Still stuck? Contact EYC Communications and we'll do our best to help you out!

Please note: If you have inadvertently (or otherwise) unsubscribed from EYC emails, none of this will work until you resubscribe. Because of anti-spam rules, no one can do this for you, you must do it yourself. Just use the "Subscribe" link at the bottom of any EYC website page and then reply to the automated confirmation email you'll receive as a result.

Around the House: March 2018

Theresa Somes

The Groundhog made his appearance and decided he was going to stay in his home for another 6 weeks. That was good for him but that didn’t stop us from coming out in February.

We kicked off the month with Mardi Gras and partied like we were in New Orleans we had some great food and drink specials and danced to the Tiki Barbarians.

There was a very special Valentine’s menu for us to enjoy on Valentine’s Day. The snow didn’t keep us away on Saturday to enjoy a Sweetheart Special Dinner.

I hope you were able to come in and relax with a nice glass of wine for National Drink Wine Day.

The fun continued with National Margarita Day. Who says you need to go to Margaritaville to have fun?

Did you miss going to New Orleans for Mardi Gras? We let the good times roll at our Mardi Gras Speakeasy. We enjoyed a Mardi Gras Mojito Cocktail, a Pimm’s Cup Cocktail and a Vieux Carre Cocktail along with some wonderful food pairings. There was even a surprise or two to enjoy. You felt like you were on Bourbon Street when everyone left with a special Martini Glass.

March brings multiple long standing events back around. Since EYC loves all things Irish we are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day twice. On the 9th the Irish Step Dancers will return to entertain us for this terrific, family friendly event. EYC member Dave Aland will be on hand with tall Irish tales and singing to entertain us. There will be music and Irish fare for us to enjoy. Bring cash for the raffle for the door prizes. Space is limited for this popular event, which sold out last year, and 2018 Commodore's Ball.

Our second celebration is on the day itself: O’Brien’s Irish Pub returns on the 17th, with our own most favorite Irish barkeep Robin O’Brien lending his name and Gaelic charms for the evening. Come on down for copious amounts of blarney, Irish food and drink. You never know if a Leprechaun may drop by or Mr. O’Brien himself for a pint or two!!

On the 20th we will be burning our socks to celebrate the equinox and the first days of Spring. We’ll have cheap beer and free oysters (until we run out of ‘em). Please bring a package of new socks and put them in the dresser in the lobby to be donated.

Our next big event will be on the 24th. Commodore Ed Wells invites you to the 2018 Commodore's Ball! Music and dancing; hors d'oeuvres and food stations throughout the clubhouse; Black tie or EYC Formal. Invitations will be mailed for this big event.

I hope you have enjoyed the decorations around the club for the events that we have had. I want to thank Sherry Buschmann, Val Pendrick and Leslie Lawton for all of their help in getting the decorating done. The decorations that you get to enjoy are someone’s personal decorations that we get to use and need to return to them.

I also want to thank Nadine Chien, Fred Batzold and Glen Somes for doing a fantastic job selling raffle tickets on Mardi Gras.

Have a good look at the calendar as we have frequent theme nights or events during every month that are not publicized - you just gotta look for them.

We value your comments and suggestions so please fill out a comment card when you receive it with your bill. You can also find them on the table by the hostess stand.

Reminder: the House Committee meets every month on the first Wednesday at 6:30 in the conference room. All are welcome to attend a meeting and see if you would like to join us on a regular basis.

Upcoming Events for April:

  • April 1 – Easter Brunch & Easter Egg Hunt
  • April 6 – New Beer’s Eve
  • April 28 – Blessing of the Fleet

Watch the Newsblast and Bulletin Board for more great events brought to you by House Committee.

EYC Easter Events

Sunday, April 1, brings two traditional EYC Easter favorites: a special brunch buffet featuring the tried and true favorites and a few unique specials from Chef Mark. Although not required, advance reservations are strongly recommended. The sumptuous repast, including a number of kid-friendly offerings, are available. Brunch service begins at 10 a.m. The cost of this elegant feast is $25.95 for adults, $13 for children ages 3-11 (kids under 3 eat free).

Our other Sunday traditions, the Bloody Mary bar and mimosa/screwdriver specials, also will be available, as usual. Please note that in order to serve the maximum number of EYCers at this popular holiday event, a new 72-hour cancellation policy has been implemented. Details are available here.

easter egg hunt2New this year, we're switching things up a bit for the annual Children's Easter Egg Hunt. We've rescheduled it for the Saturday before Easter, March 31, starting at 11 a.m. This should make it easier for families to enjoy their own traditions on Easter Sunday. The youngest hunters go first on Saturday, so being late can result in disappointment. Ages 1-4 will begin promptly at 11 a.m.; 5 and up at 11:15. Our friend the Easter Bunny will be on hand from 10:30 a.m. for photo ops with the kids, and will be on hand during brunch on Sunday as well.

Please make reservations for the little ones, and don't forget to bring a dozen pre-filled plastic eggs per child to the club by Friday, March 30, for hiding along with the other treats. Online registration is open. For more information, please contact the office at 410-267-9549.
