EYC will hold the annual Burning of the Socks on Tuesday, March 20, 2018. At 1214± (Local MRE Time) that day, the Sun will cross the equator heading North and the Spring Equinox will arrive in the Maritime Republic!
Rain or shine, sleet or snow, the Annual Eastportorican Burning of the Socks will be held at Eastport Yacht Club. Members and guests are invited to come to burn their socks, hear the history of the event, and partake in the consumption of Cold Beer and Fresh Oysters.
The festivities begin on Tuesday, March 20, at 1600 hours in the yard. EYC Shuckmeisters will be working their artistry.
Come down, enjoy a cold beverage and an oyster or six, and burn your winter socks in the bonfire. Bring a new pair of socks to donate to the Lighthouse Shelter for those in need. Outfitters will be open, too, with the limited edition Burning of the Socks T-shirts! Don't miss it.
New to sock burning? This sacred ritual, which was entrusted to EYC by its founder, Bob Turner, has deep roots and has been featured in news stories across the nation, including in the New York Times.
