Water Quality Information

The Green Team has established a robust water-quality monitoring program for routine testing of water quality in and around the marina. Our goals are to ensure that EYC’s water is safe for recreation, educate and reinforce STEM learning with real-world applications, and contribute to the Annapolis community’s efforts to monitor and restore water quality.  As part of this program, the Green Team volunteers perform water quality monitoring within the EYC marina, as well as at the Severn River oyster reef. Volunteers have also been trained to utilize a Secchi disk and YSI Meter to test and document trends in water clarity, dissolved oxygen, salinity, and pH level. The monitoring is typically performed on a weekly basis and during unusual weather events. During the summer, the Junior Fleet helps the Green Team perform the water quality monitoring.  Additionally, the Green Team ambassadors educate the kids on how water quality directly affects oyster and crab production.

This water quality information is extremely important to our members and the community. All the data is shared with partners performing water quality studies in the area. Please click on the links below to see the latest water quality information available in the area:

Trash Fishing Tournament

During the COVID-19 pandemic scare, our Green Team organized a Trash Fishing Tournament as a way for our members to help keep our local waterways clean and have fun on the water. The rules for our inaugural tournament were such things as:

  • Trash talk is allowed only at a safe social distance.
  • Submit items for awards by stopping by the club to drop off the trash and award-worthy items or by sending images via text or email.
Prizes were awarded for:
  • Largest
  • Most Valuable
  • Most Unusual
  • Most Colorful
  • Most Patriotic
It was so much fun that we hope to have this tournament annually, if not more often.

Clean Marina Designation

EYC is a certified Clean Marina. We are proud that EYC was the first yacht club in Maryland to receive a Clean Marina certification.

The Maryland Clean Marina Initiative recognizes and promotes marinas, boatyards and yacht clubs of any size that meet legal requirements and voluntarily adopt pollution prevention practices. The department has certified nearly 25 percent of Maryland’s estimated 600 marinas as Clean Marinas or Clean Marina Partners, and it aims to continue increasing this number moving forward. Boaters are encouraged to patronize certified Clean Marinas and to adopt clean boating habits..
