Advanced Racing: The Monday Night Experience for Experienced Sailors

ADVANCED RACING! THE MONDAY NIGHT EXPERIENCE for EXPERIENCED RACERS

“WOW! THAT WAS FUN!”

That’s what more than one new participant has said. And the rest of us? We agree!

EYC has reserved Mondays as J/22 racing night. Monday night racing on the J/22s is open to members and guests with the intent to start building an EYC Team Racer team to represent the club now and in the future at various events locally and around the country. We want more people to join in the fun and with that, we are changing the program:

Monday nights are open to all experienced racers, EYC members and their friends. We will now have some Mondays with dedicated, professional coaching with drills and short practice races and other Mondays with dedicated racing that will incorporate the challenges of close encounters and tactics of team racing. The goal is for everyone to hone their boat handling and racing skills that will transfer to fleet racing and to team racing.

NEW AND IMPROVED PROGRAM FOR 2021:

  • All participants must be registered thru Member Water Access Program as Skipper or Crew and must have signed waiver/emergency contact on file. Note: Participants must have some racing experience as crew or skipper.
  • Members can choose to skipper or crew; non-members may only crew
  • Opportunities on Monday nights for participants:
    • To hone and improve racing skills and boat handling skills,
    • To learn the rules, strategies and tactics for fleet and team racing (most are the same)
    • To learn to umpire team racing
    • To meet other club members and develop comradery among active racers
    • To take what you learn back to fleet racing and see how much better you have become
  • All Mondays are scheduled for sailing on J22s.
  • Half of the Mondays will be dedicated to coached drills ending with a quick race or two.
  • The other Mondays will be for racing only that incorporate the quick thinking of team racing into the mix. (Learn your rules the easy way, while in a boat!)
  • All Mondays include debriefs with adult beverages at the bar after sailing.
  • Some Mondays might include scrimmages with AYC
BOTTOM LINE: Well, we are simply having fun on Mondays and want more to join us!
