Eastport Yacht Club’s “Party in the Port“ will be a Sailors for the Sea Clean Regatta Event”
“Sailors for the Sea” Powered by Oceana is the world’s leading ocean conservation organization that engages, educates and activates the sailing and boating community toward restoring ocean health.” Boaters see firsthand the issues that our oceans face, from pollution which fouls their playground, to overfishing and habitat destruction, which threaten marine life and the source of food for billions of people around the world. Through solution-oriented programs, Sailors for the Sea unites a core constituency of sailors and boaters approximately 12 million strong in 42 states and 63 countries to save the world’s oceans.
EYC has been active in the Sailors for the Sea program for many years. Since 2014 we have worked to ensure that our regattas are clean events that meet 20 best practices which address: Elimination of Single-Use Items, Community Involvement. Responsible Waste Management, Environmental Stewardship. and Green Boating. This year, we are proud to officially fly the Sailors for the Sea Flag at our booth at the 2023 Annapolis boat shows and at the “Party in the Port” event! The event will be 100% compostable with no single use plastic and “green volunteers" will manage our ecostations to ensure the party is trash-free. Attendees will also have an opportunity to see our “Clean Marina” and “Green Building” with its pervious parking lot, rain barrels and landscaping to reduce runoff.
