The Eastport Yacht Club Junior Fleet is happy to extend sailing instruction to Adult EYC Member and Non-Members.

We will utilize our fleet of J22s and Sunfish to get you at on the water at the helm of either keelboats or dinghies with confidence and enthusiasm to be sailors for life!

There is a crew spot for all levels; Learn to Sail, Intermediate, Beginner Racer, Team & Match Racers. Build your skills and join the EYC Team Race team or Member Watercraft Access Program to take out Sunfish or J22's for recreation or racing.

  • Beginner Learn-to-Sail - Keelboat (Ages 16+) May-October
    • This class is taught in the J22 and focuses on basic sailing including terminology, rigging, steering, knots, equipment care, stowage, points of sail, docking, and right-of-way rules.

      Three Sundays: 1:00PM-4:00PM Dates: S1 June 2, 9, 23;  S2 tbd
      Four Tuesdays: 6:00PM-Sundown Dates: T1 May 15, 21, 28, June 4;  T2 July 9, 16, 23, 30

  • Intermediate - Keelboat (Ages 16+) May-October
    • A continuation of the beginner class introduces spinnaker, racing rules, and sailing the race course.

      Four Tuesdays: 6:00PM-Sundown Dates: T1 May 14, 21, 28, June 11;  T2 July 9, 16, 23, 30
      Three Sundays: 1:00PM-4:00PM Dates: S1 June 2, 9, 23; S2  July 7, 14, 21

  • Introduction to Dinghy Sailing/Racing (Ages 16+) May-October
    • Not recommended for adults over 6’ 2” and 200 lbs. Must be physically capable to pull oneself-back into a capsized boat.
      This evening class taught in the Sunfish and focuses on fundamental dinghy sailing including terminology, rigging, knots, equipment care, stowage, points of sail, boat handling, racing right-of-way rules, safety, and capsize procedures.

      Four Tuesdays (2 sessions): 6:00PM-Sundown Dates: T1 June 4, 11, 18, 25 & T2 July 9, 16, 23, 30

  • ‘Big Kid/Lil’ Kid’ Learn Together, Ages 8 and up, Beginner
    • *No experience needed
      This program is offered during the Summer Junior Sailing Program for parents/grandparents/guardians the opportunity to Learn Together!

      The program is a Learn-to-Sail curriculum that teaches students the basics of boat handling, seamanship, safety, and teamwork. The curriculum will develop competence and confidence in our sailors in a safe and fun learning environment for both adults and children. The course will mainly use our J22 keelboat fleet with options to try other boats (ability & size appropriate), and fleet of kayaks and paddleboards.

      Children must be 8 yrs old and of course no age limit for 'Big Kids'. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis with limited class sizes.


      Afternoon: 1PM - 4PM, Costs: $255/$225 EYC Member
      Session 1: June 12 - June 26 PM

      EYC members can continue to practice boating skills and fun with affordable and convenient way to get out on the water using our fleet of paddleboards, sailing dinghies, and keelboats through our Member Waterfront Access Program (WAP).

  • ‘Big Kid Me Time’ Learn-to Sail, Ages 16 and up, Beginner

    • *No experience needed
      This course is an opportunity for parents/guardians with children in the Summer Learn-to-Sail Program the opportunity to get out on the water as well!

      This class is taught in the J22 and focuses on basic sailing including terminology, rigging, steering, knots, equipment care, stowage, points of sail, docking, and right-of-way rules.

      Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis with limited class size of 4 adults.

      Afternoon: 1PM - 4PM, Costs: $255/$225 EYC Member
      Session 1: July 20 - July 24 PM
      US Sailing Intermediate Sailing textbook $19.00 includes tax available (can add in Cart)

  • Private Lessons
    • We also offer private lessons on the Opti, Sunfish, Feva (doublehanded), Club FJ, or J/22 keelboat. Cost $55/hour for an individual and $35/hour per person for groups of 2-4. If interested contact Waterfront Manager.

  • Team and Match Racing - J22
    • Join the EYC Team! Annapolis Match Race Center provides 3 J22’s for members to participate as crew or skipper. Get involved as ‘Master’ to mentor OR to Learn.
