The Eastport Yacht Club is a recognized US Powerboating facility.

We offer safe powerboating and race committee courses throughout the year. Courses are taught on-site at the Eastport Yacht Club by a US Sailing certified Powerboat Instructor. We use EYC's Junior powerboat fleet of 13', 15', and 17' Boston Whalers. US Sailing Course materials are provided.  Private Lessons are also available.

      This is a 16 hour course. There is a maximum of 8 students per class. Class is open to members and nonmembers ages 12 and up. If under 15 recommend a parent or guardian attend to ensure student is getting the most out of the course. This course includes classroom and on-water practice drills to complete US Powerboating Safe Boating certification Education certificate. Suggested Age: 12 and up. (may be affected by state minimum age)Certification(s) Earned: Safe Powerboat Handling certificate.

      Accelerated Safe Powerboat Handling

      “Behind the Wheel” 2-Day
      This NEW 2-day 16 hour hands-on, on-the-water course is for anyone who has taken a classroom boating course but needs experience to safely operate a small motorboat and improve their boat handling skills. Students will have added on-water practice spread out over 2 days. Students will be expected to study the course materials prior at home to challenge and pass a written exam at end of course covering equipment requirements, rules of the road, aids to navigation, preparation, environment regulations, safety and emergencies. Prerequisites: State Boating Education certificate. Suggested Age: 12 and up. (may be affected by state minimum age)Certification(s) Earned: Safe Powerboat Handling certificate.

      “Behind the Wheel” 1-Day

      “Behind the Wheel” & Challenge Test-out. This 8- to 12-hour hands-on, on-the-water course is for anyone who has taken a classroom boating course but needs experience to safely operate a small motorboat and improve their boat handling skills. Students will be expected to study the course materials at home to challenge and pass a written exam covering equipment requirements, rules of the road, aids to navigation, preparation, environment regulations, safety and emergencies. This course focuses on hands-on application of all skills, consequently it is NOT approved by the U.S. Coast Guard or the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) as meeting requirements for a state boating safety education certificate.

      Prerequisites:
      State Boating Education Certificate Suggested Age: 12–adult (may be affected by state minimum age). If under 15 recommend a parent or guardian attend to ensure student is getting the most out of the course.
      Certification(s) Earned: Safe Powerboat Handling certificate. Cost: $225 EYC Member, $250 Non EYC member. US Sailing Course materials are provided.

      US Coast Guard & NASBLA Approved

      The US Coast Guard and the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) have approved these courses and an increasing number of states have recognized it as meeting their requirements for a state boating safety education certificate. These national and state approvals call for the course to include a total of six to eight hours of classroom sessions covering required education topics.
