Join old friends and make new ones with EYC on the Water. All EYC members and their guests are always welcome. Watch this space for news of adventures and upcoming events around the Bay and beyond.
October looks to be our busiest month yet with activities for everyone. We started the month with a “Pop-Up Cruise” to Baltimore for “FLEET WEEK” October 5-7. We stay home the next weekend but are back on the water October 20-12 for our Soup and Goose Cruise on Langford Creek. We end the month in St. Michael’s for the annual Oysterfest, this year to include the relaunch of the bugeye Edna Lockwood.
Going South GAM
NEW! If you're heading south for the winter, or thinking of doing it, make a point to join an informal, informative session on Thursday, October 11, at 7 p.m., to connect EYCers headed for Florida, the Bahamas, or the Caribbean, share info and ideas, and more. Read more / RSVP here. (Remember: you must be logged in to RSVP.)
Soup and Goose Cruise
Join us Saturday October 20 for our Soup and Goose Cruise as we glide through the fall. This is a raft-up on the west fork of Langford Creek, just around the point off of Cacaway island. Bring a hearty soup, maybe some bread or a side dish or dessert and of course your favorite beverage. We brought this event back last year after a bit of a hiatus, and everyone had such a wonderful time that we decided it needed to be an annual event. Read more / RSVP here. (You must be logged in to RSVP.)
EYC Frost Bite/OysterFest Cruise and Dinner in St Michaels, October 26-28
Enjoy the last EYC cruise of the season or come by your Land Yacht and venture to St. Michaels for all the pleasures that neat town has to offer, including OysterFest at the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum on Saturday October 27th from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. OysterFest features live music, oysters and other food, children’s activities, boat rides, oyster demonstrations, harvesting displays, cooking demonstrations, and an oyster stew competition among regional chefs. In addition, The Museum is expected to be launching their latest re-building project, the Edna Lockwood, which will become the Queen of the Museum Fleet.
• Higgins Marina - Higgins is the closest marina to the town center. Two night minimum (because of the festival). Make your own reservations by calling 410-745-9303; www.higginsyachtyard.com
As it is Oyster Fest with this extra added attraction, the crowds are expected to be heavy, with Marina slips expected to sell out early. Like last year, we have selected the St. Michaels Harbor Inn and Marina as “a favorite spot” for the trip. This marina has asked that we make our reservations no later than October 7. The marina is full service offering pump-out, WIFI, bikes, shuttle service to town, complimentary continental breakfast. Rate is $1.50 / ft, with shore connections costing $15.00/30 amp and $25.00/50 amp. Contact the marina at 410-745-9001 ext 2 to reserve your spot. Other marina options include:
• St. Michaels Marina LLC –located on the town side of the creek. Contact them at 410-745-2400; www.stmichaelsmarina.com
• Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum – if you are a member –Call them at (410) 745-2916.
Dinner is open to cruisers and drive-ins and will be on Saturday night October 27, at 6 p.m. under the name Eastport Yacht Club, at the Lighthouse Restaurant (Formerly Town Dock Restaurant, same place we have had this dinner in previous years) 125 Mulberry Street, St Michaels; 410745-2226. Please contact Pete Chambliss at 410-991-4685 or email@example.com by Wednesday October 24 so he can give them a count for the dinner.
