It's a beloved Annapolis tradition: Every year on the second Saturday in December, magic happens on the water of the Annapolis Harbor—boats suddenly appear out of the cold winter night illuminated with thousands of colored lights and crewed by jolly revelers.

Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade on Facebook

Families and friends gather at their favorite viewing spots along the waterfront to see this yearly spectacle and to celebrate the holiday season together. The Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade is one of Annapolis’ signature events and we invite you to join us as a participant in the parade or as a spectator cheering on the decorated boats and their crews.

Date: Saturday, December 8, 2018
Time: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Place: Annapolis Harbor and Spa Creek above the Spa Creek Bridge
Ed Wells, Commodore
Eastport Yacht Club

Thanks to our participants, who come out and do an amazing job of transforming their watercraft (and docks and balconies) into holiday ornaments that light up our winter night. We recognize the work and planning that goes into a Lights Parade entry, and we appreciate the effort, as well as the willingness of crews to brave a very cold night.

Special thanks go to our sponsors and advertisers. You will see listings for them, which are linked to their websites, below on this page. These businesses and organizations are providing invaluable support towards making this event a reality.

      6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Wherever you go, be there before 6 p.m., when the darkened harbor suddenly bursts into light. It's an impressive moment!

The Lights Parade will take place along the Annapolis Spa Creek waterfront, below and above the bridge. For information on access points, check out the Parade Map above.
Dress Warmly: Comfort over style. It's amazing how cold it can get when you stand in one spot for a couple of hours. Remember, there will be two fleets changing positions every hour or so. Don't leave just because the boats seem to.
Radio: WNAV Radio 1430 will be providing live coverage of the parade with roving reporters from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will report on the winners at 10 p.m. Winners also will be announced over marine radio Channel 72 at 10 p.m.

      Where to Watch the Parade

      • Eastport Bridge: If it's a warm or still night, this is the best vantage point. You can see the fleets both above and below the bridge and get a close-up look as they pass through the bridge. Note: The bridge will be closed to vehicles but open before the parade, at 6:45 and again at 7:45 p.m.
      • Naval Academy: The length of seawall bordering Spa Creek offers a long, unobstructed viewing area. Check ahead for Naval Academy security regulations that will be in effect.
      • City Dock: This is a perennial favorite spot for viewers where there is the choice of watching the boats collectively as they parade in the harbor or individually as they negotiate
      • Ego Alley: The Alley spot offers the closest possible look at the decorations as well as the chicken wire and PVC pipe that support them.
      • Harbor Queen: One fine vantage point at City Dock will be Watermark's Harbor Queen, moored at the end of the dock and conducting the "Queen of All Food Drives" during the parade. Bring a bag of non-perishable food, pet food items, or a cash donation ($10 recommended) and you'll be welcomed aboard. Beverages and snacks available for purchase and proceeds benefit the Anne Arundel County Food Bank. For more information on public boat events EYC Lights Parade viewing, visit CruisesOnTheBay.com.
      • Other Spots: If you have friends with offices, homes, or boats along the harbor, this might be a nice time to renew acquaintances. Otherwise, the walkway in front of Annapolis City Marina in Eastport, or any of the streets that dead-end at the harbor or Spa Creek are good spots to view the parade.
        • Market, Shipwright & Revel Streets
        • Acton Cove
        • Southgate, Taney & Cheston Avenues

  • For EYC Members Only
    • Lights Parade is a members-only event at the clubhouse. In addition to immediate family, each member may bring no more than two accompanied guests ($10 each)*. Instead of our regular dinner service, a buffet supper will be available at $20/adults, $10/kids. Lunch will be available until 2 p.m. on Saturday; the clubhouse (and bar) will close at 3 p.m. and reopen at 5 p.m. for Lights Parade. The show glitters on the water between 6 and 8 p.m.

      See the Buffet Menu

Please remember that parking will be a challenge all over the Eastport Peninsula, and and make your transportation plans accordingly.

Outfitters will be on hand between 6 and 8 p.m. for your holiday shopping convenience.

Don't forget to bring something for the donation boxes in the lower lobby. You can find "wish lists" for the Annapolis Light House Shelter and SPCA of Anne Arundel County on their respective websites.

PLEASE: The clubhouse will be very crowded. No strollers, playpens, or pets. Thank you.

      * If you are entertaining on your boat in the marina, please make sure to submit your guest list to the office by 4 p.m. Friday so your friends don't languish at the door while someone tries to find you to confirm they're invited to join you. Guests in the clubhouse must be accompanied by the host member during the evening; if they arrive before you do, they will be asked to wait for you at the door until you arrive.
      * Not a member yet? If you don't have an invitation to join a member-friend, there are plenty of other prime vantage points along the route. Want to get up-close and personal with the parading boats? Consider City Dock as each one will take at least one pirouette up into Ego Alley. The parade also will be broadcast over Livestream!
