Blue Angels!

The Blue Angels are coming! The deck and yard of EYC are among the very best places in town to catch the spectacular aerobatics of the rehearsal on Tuesday, May 20, and the show on Wednesday, May 21 (weather permitting, in both cases). Members and their families will be admitted free and may bring up to two additional guests at $10 each; a buffet lunch will be available for $12.95 plus tax, and the club opens at 11 a.m. each day (regular menu not available until supper time, however). Don’t forget the sunblock and your hat! This year, the flyover on Tuesday is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a rehearsal performance at 2 p.m.; Wednesday’s show is slated to begin at 2 p.m. (all times approximate). To find info, traffic and boating restrictions, and more for each day’s appearance, check out the official USNA press release at http://www.usna.edu/PAO/gradvpk08/056%20Blue%20Angels%20perform%20and%20closures%2008.doc or visit the official USNA Commissioning Week site at http://www.usna.edu/SpecialEvents/CommWeek.htm. NOTE TO THE UNINITIATED: Parking shortages and severe traffic gridlock afterward on all parts of the Eastport peninsula are an inevitable part of this event; consider walking if possible, or be prepared to come early and make a day of it!

Come One, Come All!

To the New Members and Waitlisters Party on Sunday May 18, 4-6 p.m. Prize drawings! Committee reps in attendance to tell you all about activities and how you can join in. Meet and greet Members and their friends. Just come on down and sign in at the top of the stairs. See you there!

Spring Cotillion is on the Horizon!

Coming up on Thursday, June 12, is EYC's annual Spring Cotillion, celebrating the next-day start of the Bermuda Ocean Race as well as the Annapolis Marine Industry, our "Marine Wizards" and all they do to support racers, cruisers and the entire boating community. Sponsors and volunteers are sought to make this a truly memorable event. For more info, or to volunteer, go to www.eycbash.com.

Legislative Alert

The link below includes a very important announcement from BoatUS regarding a legislative issue that impacts everyone who owns or operates a boat. In sum, unless Congress acts to pass new legislation, every boat in America will need an EPA discharge permit to operate legally after September 30 of this year. Also, please remember because EYC is a BoatUS Cooperating Group, membership in BoatUS is available to you at a special $12.50 half-price rate. Please click on the following link to view the announcement:  http://www.boatus.com/gov/epa_0408.pdf. Contact your representatives now!
